Hi everyone,
Some friends of mine were telling me about a trick where a magician had them pick a card without looking at it, and he pulled out an envelope which said "Tonight, I will meet someone named Lisa and she will pick the 8 of clubs" to which she turns over the card and boom, it's the 8 of clubs. Any idea what the name is for this trick? I'm curious! Thanks, Evan |

Ha very funny. It sounded like Identity by Richard Sanders but just wanted to ask and see.

Do you just want the name of the trick?

Off the top of my head I can think of at least 10 ways to do this. This is an incredibly easy trick that you can work out if you've read any beginners magic book.

If you are searching for that trick because you just want to know the secret, you have been told as much as you need to know. If you are searching for that trick because you are a working performer and want to add it to your repertoire, then let it become your "holy grail." Hunt it down until you know it and all the variations on it so you can finally begin to study it and master it.
My "holy grail" trick was something called the Han Ping Chien coin trick. That was the only clue I was given by the person who blew me away with his performance of it. I sought it down step by step until I understood it and was able to begin to study it in order to perform it and finally master it. Every once in awhile, a new "holy grail" trick will come along that will knock you out and make you want to pursue it. If your magician's heart is as pure as Sir Percival's, your quest may be rewarded. But not always. Some secrets will elude you and you will pursue them the rest of your life without learning them. It is the quest for knowledge that makes life worth living. The attainment is just a brief rest stop before a new quest starts.
