The term 'Pro' these days is commonly used by gaffers such as tango and kueppers who make both flippers with internal grooves (pro) and external grooves (regular). On the other hand, gaffers like Lassen, Schoolcraft and Swadling all make flippers with either an internal groove (lassen and schoolcraft) OR an external one (swaddling) thus they don't use the term 'pro' when referring to flippers.
Paul, to simply answer your question: Pro Gravity Flipper: With remilled insert and internal band, it CAN sit flat on an table when opened up Pro Flipper: With remilled insert and internal band, however it snaps shut if you try to place it openend on a table. Both use rubber bands. Personally, after hadling both, I would recommend the Pro Gravity Flipper from tango. Dentian |

Thanks for all your help everyone. I see that there are MANY
different ways to make flippers, so one really has to investigate one specific brand andthen the "model" within that brand to truely understand how the coin is manufactured and how it can be used. I've learned from your comments and from a PM what "gravity" vs non gravity is about. That's what I really wanted to understand for now. Again ... THANKS! - Paul |

If the point of your routine is to end up with the flipper in the hands of a spectator, the internal band seems to me to be overkill since the edge doesn't stay exposed for very long. The bigger issue for me for those routines is the appearance when closed. Although it does not have an internal band, I can do miracles with a Double Deception and a Power Pack and I'm not sure that an internal band would be any kind of real improvement for the routines I use them for. For me the internal band is more difficult to replace, so if it isn't critical to your routine then I would recommend the external band.
I don't even know any routines that require a non gravity flipper so I feel the gravity version is much more practical. |

This is a "manufacturer specific" question, but I don't see
the point in starting a new thread for one simple question: Besides the "Tango Pro" line, can anyone enlighten me as to who makes a flipper with an INTERNAL mechanism? (No "groove" visible at all.) I'm specifically looking for something of very high quality that would be "in stock," so I can order it very soon, but would also love to hear about top of the line stuff (probably special order.) (All due respect to Mr. Tango and his work! Tango makes good products, especially much better than 15 years ago.) Should I be headed to Mark Mason here? Even though I think his mechanism is external? If so, can a Mason flipper just sit still in my hand for 5 seconds and survive close up scrutiny from my audience of 1 person? As always, thanks in advance for helping out a relatively novice gaffed coin fanatic Best Regards to all! -Paul |

I would rethink the routine if there's a 5 second dead period where the spectator has nothing better to do than scrutinize the coins sitting in your hand.

Totally agree inigmntoya! I have no routine in mind. Simply trying to find the flippers that can stand the most scrutiny from the audience...thank you!
PS: - After digging on Mark Mason's (JB Magic) website I see his flipper: "GRAVITY FLIPPER LIBERTY HALF J B PRO COIN LINE" talks about: "The line is near invisible." Implying an EXTERNAL mechanism. Also, Schoolcraft's is INTERNAL based on website text. (My apologies to all ... I have not studied website descriptions enough (obviously).) Still, any comments would save me time researching and confirm that I'm interpreting the websites correctly...so please chime in if you feel like it. Thank you. |

"The line is near invisible." is more likely referring to the cut on the back of the coin, not the groove for the band.
Your best bet is to contact the vendors and ask your questions directly. Most/all are quite friendly, helpful, and responsive. |

I know one post made comment on JB Mason Bob Swodling coins. I would like to add my two cents on their products. They are really great products and I like the thread rather than a r****ban. I have tried to break the elastic thread by applying ruff handling and it holds up. There products are pricey but well worth the investment in my opinion

I have also just ordered a £2 Flipper from Mark Mason and at £28 I find that quite reasonable. It is being made to order and he mailed me to say it should be ready next week.I am lQQking forward to receiving it
