Your deck should contain some basic instructions. First, try perfecting the basic trick.
Good luck! |

Definitely learn the workings of the deck first. It actually took me quite awhile to get it down. But using it could be as simple as tell me your fav card, pull out the deck and produce. However you'll quickly learn that to keep the spectator from wanting to see the cards you'll need to learn a few tricks w a standard deck and a deck switch to be able to totally fry their minds. Get Mark Wilson's Cyclopedia of Magic. Inexpensive softcover with enough great tricks to do a complete show. For a DVD/ book combo get Joshua Jays Amazing Book of cards. Comes with a DVD showing how a lot of the tricks are done with performance. Both a great inexpensive value.

Both the Invisible Deck and Brainwave are fantastic. Learn to use them well and you won't be sorry.

The invisible deck is basically a one-trick pony. But it's absolutely one of the best card tricks ever invented. Practice until you can do it without thinking too much - it's harder to keep your concentration when you're under the gun.

It's not quite a one-trick pony once you've mastered the basic effect. Then you can start to make little improvements, such as starting by fanning the deck, removing one card and putting it back into the deck reversed. Cut the deck a few times to "lose" it, and then have the spectator name the card that you reversed ... any card at all. This makes it seem like a new trick without the "invisible" trappings. And there are more, but you'll need to add more skills to take advantage of them, like beginning by handing the spectator the deck to shuffle, then putting the deck behind his back and reversing one card...etc. These are all variations on a theme, but fully possible once you have the skills needed to make it happen. You also have to have the desire to NOT be like every other magician who performs the trick the way it was first learned, right out of the box.

The Paul Harris/Joshua Jay dvd on the Invisible Deck is a great resource. Just a few routines but totally worth the money.

One of my favorite routines I acquired from an invisible deck handbook was an effect centered around a dream I (you) had.
I tell the person how they were In my dream last night, I saw them there! I was playing cards with a couple of buddies and then you walked in, you grabbed the deck, whispered a card in my ear took that card out turned it face down and replaced it back in the deck then I woke up ! And this (pull out the deck) deck was sitting next to my bed. I couldn't remember the name of the card for the life of me, do you by any chance remember? They name the card, you spread thru and BAM. This one KILLS.. Particularly with female specs Enjoy! |

There are also some good pointers/subtleties in Magic: the Complete Course by Joshua Jay. He also tips a method of making one yourself.

Daryl's Invisible Deck DVD is good. He also has done similar videos for the Svengali and Stripper decks.

Here's a great routine Justin Willman does with the Invisible Deck (in this case, with 52 decks). |

I would recommend just learning how to use the deck in the original way it was meant before trying anything too complex. With a trick as amazing as the invisible deck, the original effect is probably the most mind blowing thing you can do with it. I do however like the dream idea someone mentioned on this thread.

My suggestion to you is to come up with an entertaining premise of your own.
Here is an example of someone else's: Mel Mellers does an invisible deck routine where he picks out a member of the audience who reminds him of a dream he hand recently. In fact, she was in his dream. He talks about the things they were doing in this dream, involving a single card. He can't remember the card. He asks her what the card was. She names a card. He does the "trick", and ends by saying something like "Was it really a dream?" The whole thing is fun, funny, and loads of entertainment. The key to the invisible deck is not the invisible deck. It is how to weave it into something else. Enjoy. KJ |

"real secret of magic lies in the performance" (David Copperfield)
The best performance that I know is Bill Malone's performance at "On The Loose 3" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeOB-QqzNRE#t=1018 But the dream performance that "bgm4gic" wrote gives a good Competition. |

This is one of the BEST card tricks ever invented. Find a presentation that works for you. This trick is with me every where I go. You cannot beat the reaction it gets.
