Thanks! Rick |

Magic and Meaning is my favorite. I have attended many lectures of Eugene's. Anything he presents is worth purchasing You won't be disappointed.

I love Spirit Theater for its range and texture -- Eugene explores a theory of spookiness, reveals the theatrical seance show that he developed and performed in the 1970s, applies his theory to the effects he teaches, and presents a history of seances, real and theatrical, so his readers can gain an understanding of where this stuff came from. And the book design by Richard Kaufman is tops. Easily my favorite Burger book.

All of Eugene's books are perceptive and reflective, but Mastering the Art of Magic is my favorite, with Experiencing Magic and Magic and Meaning close behind.

Mastering the Art of Magic is fun read and taught me so many things and is easily my favorite Burger book. But then, IMHO, all of his books are great reads and are highly recommended.

Magic and Meaning is brilliant. Disappointed with Spirit Magic. I'm sure it was great in it's day, but it seems stuck in the pre-Bizarrist world today.

"Mastering The Art of Magic" is my favorite, as well. In fact, it is one of my all-time favorite magic books. The "Experience of Magic" and "The Performance Of Close-Up Magic" are also excellent.

Oh goodness, if you don't have The Performance of Close-up Magic you should look into getting that one. It has some great material and teachings.

Yeah, "Performance of Close-Up Magic" and "Experience of Magic" always seem to get lost in the shuffle. Excellent essays in them.

I'd echo the vote on Mastering the Art of Magic. Eugene is an amazing writer and all of his books are really terrific. Don't overlook some of his smaller booklets too.

I can second Spirit Theatre. It's Fantastic if you are looking into performing Seance. It has a great section on the history of spiritualism too. Highly recommended.

I am also a member of the fan club. Burgers books and dvds make you focus on building and polishing your repertoire instead of just accumulating more and more unperformed tricks. I started with Mastering the Art of Magic. I can't praise it enough. Now I've moved on to The Experience of magic, Magical Voyages and Chicago Visions. I even own his audio tapes Growing in magic. All his material is recommendable. Very inspiring.
