55 years ago today was "The day the music died"
A rememberance for Richie Valens, the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly.

Wonder if Waylon gets chills thinking of this each year...

I always wondered that about Waylon. Does he feel he was touched by God, or does he feel guilty as hell?

Waylon Jennings is dead. Has been for over a decade.

Jennings later stated that he had strong feelings of guilt and responsibility after the crash.

That was more for Mr Mystoffelees who wondered if Waylon still thought about it on an annual basis. As far as Waylon he said the guilt ate him alive for many years before he was able to accept it.
Reba McEntire lost seven members of her band and her tour manager in a plane crash. She could have been on the flight herself, but decided to stay back and catch up with them the next day. She said Waylon Jennings was the first to call and tell her not to let the guilt destroy her like it did him for many years. He definitely dealt with survivors guilt for a long time after the accident. Especially since his last words to Buddy Holly were "I hope your plane crashes". |

Great book on that last ill-fated tour called "The Day the Music Died: The Last Tour of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens". Well worth reading. Amazon has it.

During my first 2-year stint performing with Peter Frampton, our lighting director was Steve Lawler. He had survived 4 plane crashes ... including the one that claimed the lives of some of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band and crew members. And unbelievably, he still had no qualms about flying!
