Ordered. See a lot of potential in this and how it lends itself to different kind of presentations, a possibility of both light and dark.

Shedim. Most definitely. At least in conjunction with Aes.

Ordered immediately after the notification. That plus Alchemist's Bane (I know I'm a bit late to that party). This is my first foray into the Gemini Artifacts world, but not Prof BC by any stretch.
This thing looks unfathomable, because it is such a simple shape. I was actually expecting it to have more curves and protrusions, like an abstract animal fetish or something, and maybe some arcane symbols on it. But this looks perfect, because its smooth simplicity lends it to any backstory we want! Beautiful and ingenious, like any BC product... Plus you can use it for self-defense, if necessary; how many magic items can say that? Seth |

I like the way Prof BC thinks. This and AG caused me to smack myself on the head.

What I find strange is that it can be spinned in both directions to start with!

I luv the look of this and its scientific abnormality as well. No doubt the story with it will be as fascinating as the principle and back history. The only worry I have is that it has been cheaply produced as a child's scientific toy and is now a well known principle.
Does this version easily spin in both directions freely until required. I guess you can cover the modern day copies of this ancient abnormality in the storytelling somehow. Beautiful piece though. "What I find strange is that it can be spun in both directions to start with!" If that is an accurate statement, then it does make it different to the cheap versions. |

I love that picture of the item and showed it to my wife, she giggled and said that it looks like one of those items women hide in their secret drawer. ;-)

I have had a few questions about this. Yes the item can be spun BOTH ways before the magic happens. There is no switching or duplicate objects in play, there is only the one solid unit that is able to spin freely both ways.
I should also add that the units ordered this weekend, will be shipping tomorrow! |

Then that in itself, the fact it can be spun both directions by the spectator freely before going to the mojo, is a game changer for me. Really nice piece of work with tremendous possibilities as an ancient artifact in my cabinet of curio's.

Been reading the manual and yes, Prof has indicated a really simple method to get it to spin it in both directions. And after the magic happens, no fishy move or whatever, the artifact will work as intended, spinning only in 1 direction. The manual also include several routines and ideas to incooperate with exisiting effect. It is truly an utility tool for a bizzare performer. Now, just waiting for it to arrive and test it out.

Sorry to be late to the conversation.
I would actually go so far as to say that the main point to this offering is that it can indeed be shown (very openly and freely) to spin both clockwise and anti-clockwise. In fact, the routines call for the spec to do all of the spinning in both directions. The GYRE does indeed spin quite freely both ways--just as anyone would expect it to spin if it were a bottle or pencil or any other normal, roundish object. Then, with no suspicious 'moves' (and certainly no switching--in fact, the GYRE never even leaves the spec's sight) it suddenly will turn in only the one direction (anti-clockwise) and will refuse to spin clockwise. This handling is quite simple and straightforward and completely effective. Everything about your presentation of GYRE is entirely above board and logical. Furthermore, the prop lends itself to a wide variety of stories and can be used in combination with other effects you already own or know how to do. The performance manual covers all of this. Moreover, the weight of the bronze gives it a truly eerie rumble as it stops itself and then (in a macabre manner) forces itself (all by itself) to rotate in the other direction. It comes in a solid wooden box (as pictured) with a brass knob on the top (suitably aged to a dark patina). The box is held shut with a deerskin belt (again as pictured on the site) and, inside, the artifact rests on a suede leather 'pillow'. My intention is to make this a very tactile effect, and I've taken some pains to make the feel of it extremely sensuous--weight and density combined with softness of the suede and smoothness of the polished wood juxtaposed to the roughness of most of the artifact (having deteriorated with age) and the age-worn polished gloss of the rounded portion of the artifact. It is intended to be a treat simply to handle even before (and, indeed, after) the magic happens. No ditching, no switching, nothing to hide, nothing to wear out or replace. What the spec sees (and handles) is exactly what they get--and then something quite unexpected and extraordinary takes place. Once you see this effect, you will remain mesmerized by the sheer impossibility of it for a very long time indeed. Best, Prof BC

After the spec spins it both directions does the spec "examine" it? Just not clear on the ad. It says it is "examined". Very cool looking prop

She can even take it out of the box herself if you wish (and put it away again when you are finished). The whole thing can happen over on her side of the table or room. Now, at some point you might want to demonstrate how you want her to handle it, but you do absolutely nothing 'tricky' at all, and the artifact remains right in front of her and in full sight the whole time. There are no steals nor truly anything strange or suspicious that you have to do. Even though there is most assuredly a 'secret' involved, you will learn it and be able to perform it absolutely flawlessly within five seconds of being told what it is. And, yes, the spec can inspect the artifact to her heart's desire and even carry it around with her for the whole evening if she likes (you'll want to get it back from her before you leave, of course). I demonstrated this for Vic over supper when I first 'pitched' it to him and let him do all of the handling and keep it on his side of the table until the end of the evening, and if there was ever a 'spec' that would quickly catch a gimmick or tricky move, it is Vic. He will tell you himself that he was entirely fooled by it after playing with it for the entire meal. And the secret, even if I say it myself (and forgive me if it sounds like boasting), is a dream of simplicity. Thanks for asking, Prof BC

Having read the performance manual last night after ordering it, I can say that the good Prof BC is not overstating this in any way. It really is genius. Even folks who think they know the theory behind how it works will be fooled by the fact that it can rotate both clockwise and ant-clockwise from the beginning. Without the performer ever needing to touch it. I think that with some creative routining, it can be performed start-to-finish without the performer needing to touch it - ever.
Simple. Brilliant. Simply brilliant! David |

Ok .. I'm stumped. I've known of the phenomena for some years. I assumed there had to be a switch and the box was used to do it. I was happy with that explanation.
In my mind, the demonstration of freely spinning both ways is essential to this effect. It dispels (pun intended) any comparisons to the children's toy. I can only imagine how good this clunky piece of brass looks when it stops spinning and goes the other way. The toy version looks pretty good itself. Edit: I just thought of one explanation that has me snickering. I hope it is that simple.

Not, knowing what the artifact is being called, or explained as in performance.
Could there be an isssue with a spec, making a comment about Her child owning something similar ? And, would this give a tie-in with something being Dark in Origin or Nature, of something in Her home ? I do like how this can spin both, directions !
