Does anyone sell a $20 mismade bill?
I realize that it may be expensive because of the waste from cutting a whole sheet but perhaps a fake. I don't think it would be illegal. Maybe it could be considered a novelty or gag play money. Similar to the one million dollar bills sold.

I can scan sections of a $20 and stitch them together in Photoshop so it's a mismade bill. That should work.
My computer won't allow me to scan an entire bill. The scanning program stops and I get a warning that it's illegal. My main concern is getting a similar paper. Perhaps parchment or cotton fibers, resume paper?

My computer doesn't stop me when printing mismade one billion dollar bills. I use them after borrowing a 20$ bill, doing John Carney's Logical bill trick keeping the change (silver coins) and handing out a regular 1 billion $ bill as lucky charm for what I wish to the fortunate spectator. As an additional incentive I take the 1 billion $ bill back, perform a bill switch and hand out the mismade 1 billion $ bill explaining that when he will be able to put it back, he will be a real billionaire... Then I ask him if he wants his twenty back or if he wants to become an actual billionaire in the coming days...

I'm still working on making a $20 mismade bill.
I went to KInko's and bought the paper referenced above and I also got some Tyvek paper at Staples. I figured Tyvek would be perfect and was looking forward to trying it. I'm having some problems and hopefully someone can help me. First of all I was not able to scan an entire $20 bill. I got a message saying that I can't scan US currency. Since I only need the 4 quarter sections of the bill for the mismade bill, I scanned the 4 corners individually , front & back. Total of 8 scans. Using Windows XP. Just for fun, I then scanned an entire $1 bill with no problem. When I opened the photo scans of the $20 bill sections in "Photoshop", I got another message telling me again, that I for some strange reason I am not allowed to counterfeit. This was on a Macintosh. I went ahead and stitched, edited, cropped and aligned the front of the mismade bill. It looked perfect on screen. Before I started working on the back of the bill I wanted to see what a printout would look like. Well, I got another message about not being allowed to counterfeit and said I am not allowed to print. "And I couldn't". Obviously, I am not trying to pass off a mismade bill as real currency, so I don't feel like the Secret Service will come knocking only door. I hope not anyway. Does anyone know if these restrictions are from the scanner, Windows OS, Macintosh OS, Photoshop, or all. Has anyone been successful printing a corner section of a $20 bill? If so, what software did you use? I haven't quit yet. Determined. Thanks,
Ihor

Doing a bill change with a billion dollar bill is very good.
However, doing a mismade bill with a billion dollar bill is not so good. For maximum effect, the mismade bill needs to be perceived as authentic currency. That's why it's such a powerful effect. The mismade bill is in fact, real currency! _____________________________________________________________________________ |

So Bill, You think that the mismade bill would be just as effective if done with a billion dollar bill, as it is using a genuine dollar bill, which can be borrowed from a spectator?
I think for this particular type of effect, it does indeed need to be a natural everyday item. You are transforming this natural everyday item (a dollar bill) into an impossible object (the mismade bill). If you start with an already impossible object (a billion dollar bill) then the transformation loses a lot of its impact. It's probably still a good trick, but definitely not as strong as the one which begins with the natural everyday item. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ |

Just to clarify my reason for the OP.
I currently perform a bill switch from a $1 dollar bill to a mismade one dollar bill. I would like to be able to perform a bill switch from a $20 bill to an authentic LOOKING $20 mismade bill. It is too expensive to cut up a sheet of $20s because of the waste which cannot be used. I don't even know if you can purchase sheets of $20s. I'm not even going to even look into it. What I wanted to do is print my own mismade $20 bills. I purchased the paper which I think will be acceptable. (Cotton fiber) It doesn't have to be perfect. Just close enough to look real. My problem is : My computer will not allow me to print even parts of a scanned bill. (I tried it in Windows and on a Mac) I scanned 8 separate parts of a $20. 4 front and 4 back sections of the bill. I then stitched them together in Photoshop and it looked like a mismade $20 bill on the monitor. When I try to print I get a pop up window telling me that I can't print US currency. I was hoping someone had experience with this previously and had a suggestion. Thanks,

Ihop,
Instead of scanning the bill in a computer, use the color copy machines at Kinkos. |

Brad,
Thanks for your reply. I don't understand how copying a 20 dollar bill at Kinko's will help me in making a mismade bill. Maybe I didn't understand what you meant. I need to be able to rearrange the 4 quarter sections so they look like a mismade bill and then print it. Also, I believe a legitimate printing company like Kinkos will not allow this. That's only my guess. Regards,

Ihop,
1. Make a color copy of the front and back of a twenty. 2. Cut the copies into quarters. 3. Arrange the quarters into the front and back of a mismade bill and paste them onto a blank sheet of paper. 4. Now make a color copy of this. 5. Cut out these front and back copies, and copy them again, using the 2-sided feature on the xerox machine. You will have a great looking mismade twenty. This is somewhat more labor intensive than scanning a bill into a computer, as when you cut & paste with this method you have to use actual scissors and actual paste. As to whether the staff at Kinkos will allow this, I suggest that you do not bother to find out. ________________________________________________________________________________________ |

My Adobe Suite didn't include Imageready. But I am using a Mac. I may have to dig out my PC.
