Good evening guys, I hope everyone is having a solid weekend so far,
I am looking to get together a group of people who have a solid understanding of the many different double lifts around. I believe that I have come up with a method that is unique and I would just like to run it by some people. If you are interested please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it. Take care guys! |

It's pretty much a way of getting a double without obtaining a break. I am interested in doing a video session sometime soon when I get a solid group of people together.

Here is the link, don't mind the lighting, the double doesn't look different just the method of obtaining the double is. |

Sorry to burst your bubble but that is far from new. That technique has been around for a long time. It happens. I've came up with a few ideas on my own only to find out that it was in print before I was born lol.

Yes.....Doc Daley's. That's the double I've been using for 20 years now. 'new' double lifts are hard to come by.
Cheers, Bill |

As to the original topic question (which got my interest), what about 'history'? The jog control has been around almost since the beginning of playing cards! Same for the DL? Lynn

I remember reading just recently a thread on a "new" no break double lift but couldn't find it using the new search engine. I do believe it was the same type thing though (not really new)

Dr. Daley's "Instantaneous Double Lift" (which the OP seems to have rediscovered, judging by the video) is from his "Itinerant Pasteboards" entry in the Stars of Magic collection. I realize that when the OP said "history" they were not speaking in a general sense, but Hugard, in Card Manipulations, claims that the first mention of a DL in magic literature is Jean-Nicolas Ponsin's Nouvelle Magie Blanche Dévoilée, Physique Occulte, et Cours Complet de Prestigitation (1853 - 1854). I seem to recall having once heard of an earlier citation.
It puts the matter in context, in any case: In light of Magic's long history and vast literature, it's getting tougher to come up with anything truly new.
There are many tricks, and many effects, but rarely a Grand Effect. There are many entertainers, but few real magicians. Many technicians, but few artists who use their art to explore their vision. - Derren Brown, Absolute Magic

See? Saved a great deal of time. Just so you know, it is very, very rare that someone comes up with a technique for a standard sleight that a) is original and b) is viable. |
