The prices on silks here seem to be very low...
I have read all the advice here, but I'm looking to buy a lot of silks to practice with and do very little real world performing...
Money is to tight to spend on great quality silks at this time.
I've been to the Walmart, JoAnn Fabrics, thrift stores etc...there is some nice stuff to be found reasonable but I'm fond of the colors on most magic sites for silks.
Any comments welcome.

For practice...yep..price is right...but when you really get serious...pick up:

Rice's Encyclopedia Of Silk Magic Vol's 1-4
Rice Solid Spectrum & Symphony Pattern Silks
Rice Silk American Flag (Mis-made Flag's missing piece is not SEWN on, it's actually DYED that way, great patriotic piece)

But sixteen bucks for a 36" silk, I gotta question the quality, and how much Sericin (silks with a high amount of this will "rot" over time) they contain.

The Rice silks have been treated so that all Sericin has been removed...meaning your silks COULD last you the rest of your life! Something to consider if you are a serious silk performer. Simple care...and better investment.

Practice does make perfect, and right now practice, I believe, is foremost...do invest in the Rice books, tho'...the small ones...look here:

Ten bucks is a small price to pay for such valuable info.

Good luck!

I know what you mean about looking at the pictures on the sites. I recently bought diamond silks from hocus-pocus, red and green. The color was very different than the picture. The green is green and the red a red.

I was very satisfied with the color. Out side of that they carry all the standard colors of the rainbow. So, what color do you want.

Yes, fabric stores have silk, but it is what some people refer to as "K-Mart" colors. Remember these are for cloths not magic.

Sorry, never bought Annie's products. I depend on Rice's silks and P&A silks, remember P&A use very heavy silk material. So they are not as easy to compress in small places.
