One other possibility is that they know what a marked deck is (a lot of people do, though they wouldn't recognize one) and were just guessing that's what you were doing. But if you got the feeling it was more than that, then they probably caught you being obvious in trying to see the marks.

I think your initial post was spot on. Performer likely staring at the marks. Performer using the deck for the wrong purposes. Performer using the decks too long for too many effects. Performer not practicing and learning enough. Performer needs to learn about what magic is.

I got the idea thank you, but I think you don't, and this will be my last post of explanation.

I didn't stare at the marks, I stared at the cards, I wanted (and I agree that I was wrong) to give the impression that I tried to divine which cards were in their hands: the markings weren't involved in the trick anyway and I didn't use them.

Yes I used the deck for a wrong purpose, I only got this deck with me so I couldn't do otherwise. So yes I made a mistake in using it too long and for too many effects.

I expressed many wrong statements in this topic and you've been able to point them out. I think that I've understood my mistakes by now.

I thank all of you for your answers, it really did bring me much on the magical and performer levels, and made me think about many things, no irony in here, I really mean it.

Don't be put off by the negative comments Artemis17, use it to improve and be a better performer.
Magic is not about "Hey look what I can do. I am better than you". It's about entertaining.
Practise more, much much more. Practicing once or twice in front of a mirror is not enough.

@Dynamic, a Svengali deck is really one type of deck that you absolutely cannot hand to spectators!!! I personally did some tricks with a Svengali deck I had found in a magic box when I was little, and my friends got it immediately, but hell it was many years ago ^^

He was joking about the Svengali deck. Don't take too seriously Smile

Your best friends should be some good books, a mirror, and being modest and humble.

I love showing a good effect to a group of friends or family - but those same people often don't see me as a miracle worker but rather as creator of puzzles for them to solve. Why? because friends and family in many cases never see you in a different way, even when you get good. Just the nature of the beast, and I know Bob Cassidy has said the same thing.

Artemis17 - it was your original posting here which came off the wrong way. You were blaming the MD and then asking the creator Christian to somehow explain your problem or what is wrong with a perfectly great deck.

You will earn respect here and get good advice when you think about your questions and show modesty and a willingness to learn and improve. That may mean some new Steampunk glasses with clearer lenses.

Ow, how dumb of me ^^

Do you have good books about the way of performing that I could read?

Yes I see it now. It was not with a bad intention, my main question was about different markings possible with Phoenix decks, and I didn't see that I myself the problem. Sorry about all that people, especially Christian, your MD is really great, I didn't think before posting.

This book is good for any MD - great ideas, routines, and the proper way to handle the deck. En Francais aussi bien!

...You have much to learn I suspect so please don't defend your actions here. The marks aren't the problem. Your performance and "magicians guilt" seem to be the issues. Don't blame the deck. Learn and do things differently. Then you will improve.

Just because you know some tricks and own some tools doesn't make you a magician. Listen to the people here and you can learn.

There is a pattern I am seeing with your posts here. You need to go listen and learn.

Good post! And, very nice of you to help, Brett.
