Was he Mysto here or Fred Kaps? Was this before his 1st FISM win? Gypsy Thread, who knew! He was such a brilliant performer. all the little gestures and things he adds to a stage personality. multiplying Cigarettes, what a simple thought, and yet, I have never thought of holding the cigarettes between each finger.

Kaps was a prolific all around magician. I wouldn't be surprised if there was footage of him performing some large scale illusion.

Well, Jay Marshall definitely considered Fred Kaps was a world class performer, who did sleights, comedy, and, yes, the big boxes, too.

Yes, Fred Kaps even performed stage illusions.
I remember seeing his performance of the thin model sawing, together with his daughter. But stage illusions was not his cup of tea and the audience could feel that. |

The starter of this thread is the world famous Dominique who has played all over the world for many, many years, including Vegas in the 70-ties!! I saw him, as a youngster, at Circus Scott in Sweden in the 60-ties and I stíll remember all the tricks he performed!

Nice. I've not seen this clip before and young Mr. Kapps did a few things I'd not see him do before.
Thanks for sharing!!

I have a copy of the "SPHINX" (October 1950) before me, with "MYSTICA" on the cover. Myarica had just won the Grand Prix (by unanimous decision of the judges) at thr Fourth International Congress of Magicians in Barcelona. Later, Mystica "became" Fred Kaps!

Fred told me when he decided to get rid of the Mystica name (his real name was Abraham Bongers) (Jay and I always called him Bongers, his family called him Brom)... anyway he looked through a phone book and saw a company name 'DAPS' (maker of raincoats) he liked the sound of it and changed it to Kaps.
