Hi guys,
I've just finished making a Spirit Bell but I'm having a probelm with internal clicking. Does anyone have any tips as how best to muffle the noise without causing an overheating issue. Is it best to just pack around the unit with something or is the housing unit causing an amplification effect. Should I remove the plastic casing around it or does it need the air to cool? Even though I managed the build myself (all parts handmade, I'm quite proud), I'd prefer an old school solution (i.e. sound proofing) rather than adding another component. The unit is a 12v DC 1 channel momentary. Here's a pic of the finished thing. Thanks for any and all help. Click here to view attached image.

Here's an old school solution for you: hand everyone a metal cricket clicker to use at any time they feel frightened by the spirits. There should be enough random clicking going on to cover any noise your apparatus makes as just another timid soul in need of comfort.

I suppose it might work, Jim, but I'd rather keep it simple.
I got a PM with a suggestion so I'll just keep on trying.

Remember that sponge is a sound absorber, if there is room line the inside of the box with this - it will help tremendously.

Anverdi - I was thinking about that. My only concern was that the workings might need air around them to keep cool. The sponge may casue ot to overheat and fain/break at the critical moment. I'm going to be experimenting but also someone here has offered to help me solve the issue another way.
