Thanks Carpet,
The title is absurd just to get people's attention. But, I DO see a ton of people who really make a mess of the move. I'm glad it helped you! Ben S

The trick in Robert-Houdin's book with a candle is a good exercise.
The sleight is called le Tourniquet, which is idiomatic French... The hard part seems to be motivating the transfer in routine.

The Chapender vanish would more likely serve most folks. It's also a drop but...
If you check out the Kaps video you'll likely want to use the sleight. Look at 0:14 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5waAQ8yb91E

Definatly #5! Will help sell the vanish when it happens. That is one of the things I picked up from Mr. Neighbors years ago.

Good advice. The hand drop needs to be natural too. If the arm drops stiffly at all it won't look right.

Derek Dingle had very unusual work on the French Drop, but I think one problem is that so many laymen know it or "of" it. That's why the spider-grip vanish works. Meanwhile, it is better to use classic palm in the spider-grip vanish and not the thumb palm, if you can. Regards, Gregg Webb

It's time for me and a mirror to have a little French Drop time. It's funny how many of the foundations of magic are done poorly by so many, thanks for the post I enjoyed the article very much Mr. Salinas.
