I've recently posted an article on my website that lists all of the books that Dover has ever published on Magic Tricks. Are there any books that anyone knows of that are not in the list? For example, did Dover publish Hoffmann's Latest Magic or More Magic books? Also, in case you didn't already know, Dover has recently begun selling e-book versions of many of their books.

The link to the article (not yet linked from anywhere on my website yet): http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/doverbooks10.htm

Enjoy, and thanks for any additional input.

Hi Doug,

First off, your site is a TREASURE and thank you! I hope to provide full TOC and summaries for Pallbearer's, some other journals, plus some rather rare books.

To my knowledge Dover didn't publish the later two Hoffman books, but, you should check Lybrary.com as Chris Wasshuber has all of the Dover books online so a check there would confirm for you.

Keep up the great work!

Slainte,
Vlad

Vlad,

Looking forward to the TOC listings!

I should add that Dover e-books are DRM protected - yucky but understandable in this age of digital theft. Right now the Dover Publications website has some specials where you can buy the physical book and get the e-book for free.

At Lybrary.com, I could not find the following e-book that is listed at the Dove site: Fulves, Karl: Self-Working Close Up Card Magic

However, Chris has the following e-books that are NOT listed over at Dover:
Victor, Edward: Classic Card Tricks
James, Stewart: Abbott's Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks
Sachs, Edwin: Art of Magic
Hatton & Plate: Magician's Tricks

That one should probably be either Sachs, Sleight of Hand or Downs, Art of Magic...

Thanks for your site, Doug. It's a fantastic resource.

Duane,

Good catch, yes that should have said that Lybrary.com has the Dover edition of Edwin Sachs Sleight of Hand, while the DoverPublications site doesn't list it (at least as of this date).

While most of the Dover books are readily available, a few seem to be harder to find. I expect they printed fewer copies of these books:

Hofzinser, Johann N.: Hofzinser's Card Conjuring
Maskelyne, Nevil: Maskelyne on the Performance of Magic (Part One of Maskelyne and Devant's Our Magic) - I've never seen this one
Robert-Houdin, J.E.: King of the Conjurer: Memoirs of Robert-Houdin
Scot, Reginald: Discoverie of Witchcraft

Actually I stand corrected yet again! <grin>: The Reginald Scot Discoverie of Witchcraft is still available, but it wasn't listed under the Magic Tricks section, which is why I missed it.
