Ok well as many of you know, I am in the Military and was told yesterday that there is a good chance I will be going to Afghanistan in October for 6 months. My plan is the mission, schooling and Magic. Just want an honest opinion and ideas of things I should get, buy, bring with me to further my learning. What to read, what to load my nook with. Close-up, walk around, mentalism and some small parlor since I don't see myself doing any stage shows out there. Just looking for Ideas, that is all. Thanks a lot in advance.

All the best to you, Paisa.
Please stay safe! Keep the eyes in the back of your head open and trust none of the indigenous people. But I know that I don't have to tell you all of that.

Didn't have much time for magic when I was out there in 2006 with 3 Para Battlegroup. It was bloody chaos.

Be lucky mate...It's difficult to recommend anything without first knowing what it is you're into and at what stage in your learning.
And respect for what you do too. Thank god there are people like you that are willing to go out and fight for our continued freedom. best Sean |

Not much stage, that isn't pack small paly big type of deal like Comedy confab, or TOD. Mostly close up. From my understanding ill be running the Armory out their so unless changes come down the pipe I don't see too much outside the wire unless mission dictates.

If you think you would have a lot of down time maybe working on a few sleight of hand moves that you can practice over and over and have down perfect by your return. Good luck and be safe

But seriously, I just want to say thank you for your service to our country. That's all.

If you don't do mem deck work, that might be a project to work on? Mnemonica is a good read and a good method for learning a full stack. Stay safe!

I'm sure you have already got and read most of these , but 13 steps mentalism book and practical mental magic have lots of information and the books are not too big , same with expert card technique . I don't know too much about nook but if the ebooks from L@L publishing ebook site work , I would recommend getting a few ebooks they have a great selection and always have ebooks on sale for $9.95 . http://shop.conjuringarts.org/store/pc/home.asp this site also has lots of great ebooks but I'm not sure if they will work on the nook . Good Luck .

Hope you are heading to ISAF HQ which isn't so bad. I would bring things that are small and easily repeatable. Self working card trick DVDs great source of material. Maybe a few coins. Gimmicks generally bad as they will get dirty/lost. Maybe new Bently could be fun -- don't have it so don't know.

Most importantly>>>>> Thank-you for your service! <<<<<
If you haven't already, I'd suggest taking an Okito Box (maybe a set of three: regular, Boston Box and a slot box). If you can only justify taking one, I would opt for the slot box. The more you handle a slot box the more you'll find you can do with this under appreciated apparatus. All the best and be safe, Julie |

Hey Paisa!
Definitely Mem deck if you haven't already. Coins on Edge and other Kainoa manuscripts if you want to push the boundaries of your coin work. Bently is fun and will complement your other PK work nicely. No time is wasted learning a Rubik's cube. Best of luck and God Speed!

I came home ten times as good as I was before I left. I'd recommend taking a brick of cards with you and whatever books you can get your hands on. Also, keep in mind, Amazon delivers to APO addresses, so you can always pick things up from them, it just takes a while to get to you. Keep your head down! |

I think any ring and string routine (I use the moves from Bob Miller and one of Mark Leveridge's) is worth the practice, and something you can have in your pocket all the time.
