I don't think China is so communist anymore (if they ever really were).

At this point, China probably provides even fewer social services for its people than the US. It certainly is not a communist form of government, and no longer even socialist. It is basically State Capitalism.

If conditions in an area are so bad that the best that many can do is work at company X under conditions Y for wage Z, and Y and Z sound horrible, then it must be a sort of irony to rip company X, when they're providing the best option available to the area's residents. I mean, if they're willing to work at that wage under those conditions, imagine the shape they'd be in if company X weren't there.

What if Company X ran other businesses (and better paying jobs) out of town in the first place?

Target is where you pay a little more not to have to go to WalMart.

And Walmart is where I pay a little less to avoid Target!

Either way, if the goods are made in China, they do not create jobs for Canadians outside of the shop. What it results in is people out of work and spending government dole. What it does is bring down the west to the commonest level. Once you have them there, then bring in a world government with the Rockefeller & Co in control and the Commoners will be the Communists. And it will serve the Commoners right for buying goods from the Communists. Such is life at Walmart and Target. Smile
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Ah so the handful of folks making the billions at Walmart and Target are communists. Good to know, I hadn't gotten the memo on that.

Target and Kmart both once sold quite well made goods at a reasonable price here in Australia. Both unfortunately now sell very cheap poorly made goods. I've stopped shopping at both. It must be something to do with my age. I like things I buy to last for years or even decades, not days.

I don't think China is so communist anymore (if they ever really were). They seem to have taken a lesson from Hong Kong and gotten on board with capitalism and it's paid off for them. China can't be communism as Marx intended it simply because the power elite in China control everything and that's the opposite of what Marx wanted.

Critter,

Good catch! And the same argument applies to the former Soviet Union as well as North Korea. Marx clearly stated that for a society to truly become communist, it would first have to undergo a significant period in which it was capitalist. This didn't happen in Chjina, the Soviet Union, or indeed any "communist" state. Thus, ironically, communists never read their Marx. Smile

There is a reason why you don't see a peopleoftarget.com website. Smile
