Hi all,
I know this is an older thread but the trick is still available and I've come up with a routine which works much better for my situation. Someone suggested I share it. I was never that happy to perform PT as I only do card tricks (not my day job - I'm a business advisor and it's mainly for presentation openers/ icebreakers) and I try to maintain the idea that I only ever use normal decks of cards. And if I set a challenge in my magic, I like to let the audience win it! Just my personal style. So I made up my own PT using 2 through 6 of hearts instead of blank cards, and 10-A hearts for the reveal. I tell them I am going to show them a poker hand, and to remember as much as possible about it. There's going to be a 4-question quiz, and they only need to get 50% to pass. So far everything looks normal to them. Then I ask the number of cards and they get their first point. Then I ask the bottom card, and they sometimes debate about whether it was the 2 or the 6 (and what I mean by "bottom") but in any case they are wrong. The AH is just credible enough to them that they may have missed it, of course. Then the back colour and they are "like WHAT?" so now they are on the back foot and getting engaged on a different level. Then I ask them "what was the NAME of the poker hand you saw" (not just "what was the poker hand" or they might start telling you the actual values) and when someone says "straight flush" (or even just "flush" if they are confused because the Ace showed up) you can say they are correct and have passed the test! While showing them the royal flush and knocking them out. Reactions are just as fantastic as the regular PT in my experience, and they still only have seen "regular" cards throughout... |

Thanks for sharing patadix88, I like it.
About time I change up my routine for this and bring it out of mothballs. Curious why you went with hearts for your routine as I probably would have gone with spades. But makes no difference just curious. Thanks again for reminding us about this. |

I went with hearts because I use Bicycle cards and the Ace of Spades has that huge pip on it, whereas the AH has a small pip, so the idea they might have genuinely missed it is more convincing. Plus people seem to like hearts!
