I don't say/do anything - I pocket it and go straight to the next effect when I use this. By the time they have recovered from it, I'm into the next thing. If they ask later, I suppose you could always carry a second set of cards, but I wouldn't worry about it. For me, at least, I've never once been asked, so I don't worry about it.

If we choose to modify the gimmick for one presentation - can the cards be modded a second time with different faces and backs?
Things are about to change........ LIGHTS!!!

Looking forward to this one. I liked the concept for the original poker test a lot

I then go right away into more magic with a shuffled deck, allowing the spectator to shuffle and examine everything. And by doing this, most of the time they believe they examined the Poker Test cards as well. I always use the same color deck as the cards I am left with in the trick. So visually they stay constant. And the through the visual consistency, no one questions the gimmicked cards. If that makes sense. It made sense in my head.

I personally like to end with every card having a different back color and design from what was previously shown. This is also easy to switch while getting out a regular deck and going on with your next effect. But it also provides for a couple of gags with the PT cards and then I ask them to hold the PT cards with the different backs while I start in on my next effect with the regular deck. I don't really like giving props to folks and telling them they can check them out because I feel it implies that something "could" be tricky with them. But this way they are holding them for a logical reason and while in their hands they can look them over or not, it's their choice. |

Also, saying the first version didn't work so well is only partially true. I personally hand made most of the first version but I could not keep up with the demands of it, being in school and all. So, I outsourced it to another magic company that made a batch. I checked a couple, and cleared it for selling. That was my mistake. 1000 units went out, and I think only half were functional. So, not all of version 1 was bad, only the last sting of it was. The overwhelming amount of complaints from 1.0 made me discontinue it and figure out a solution to the gimmick and outsourcing problem. That being said, I still have no ability to sell at a discounted rate, because I personally have no units of my own.

I too bought the first version and was rather disappointed with the durability. However it was a good trick and I took advantage of Penguin Magic's generous 50% off offer and flat-pack shipping to order version 2.0!

I loved Erick's "Version 1" even though it did wear out kind of quickly...I probably bought 4 or 5 sets of it because it was just so amazing. To me it was worth the repurchases because the impact is so strong. I maybe could empty a vending machine with all the flipper quarters I've bought and lost so repurchasing is common place for me but I do understand that money is tight for a lot of folks and actually is for me now too since MY FREAKING PAY WAS CUT IN HALF!!! (sorry...just venting) Having to again check the couch for change after all these years I can see how it could wrangle some nerves if a magic trick has a short life span.
Still, I think Erick had a gift: a stroke of magic genius from the Lord, when he invented Poker Test. I just sense that he has a good heart, had no intent to hurt or defraud anyone, and I'm happy for him and for us that he now able to offer his undeniably great concept in a better embodiment. Orville and Wilbur's flight was just a few moments but the concept changed our lives. I would have liked it better too if I hadn't spent over 100 bucks on version 1 but I kept buying and rebuying because I loved the looks of amazement, laughter and smiles the original Poker Test brought my way. I actually have new friends because of that bit of magic. I still get free cups of coffee from a famous coffee spot now and then because they remembered Erik's magic in my hands. I too received the discount coupon from Acar, which was so very classy, but I would have been happy, discount or no discount, to order 2.0, (which I just did yesterday) because I need some more of the smiles and laughter I know that performing it will again bring my way. Why do I need those smiles and laughter coming my way again? Well, to cheer me up because, as you are now aware, MY FREAKING PAY WAS CUT IN HALF!!! With that in mind I will execute an abrupt change in tone and just say: "This 2.0 better not wear out anytime soon BECAUSE MY FREAKING..." well, you know |

Erik, I have a question for you. I have version 1, and it is currently one of my favorite packet effects. When I got mine it worked fine for a pretty long time (especially since I was playing around with it myself or in the mirror a million times a day), and when a card started to "slip" after a while I would "touch-up" ALL of the cards and then it would work fine again....My question to you (or anybody) is: regarding the thickness of the entire packet , can you treat the "Phil" style cards to make the packet look as it should (I have never had anybody notice this), Im only asking. Thanks1

I remember a trick by Henry Evans in his Something more than an illusion 3, called "Remote Control Deck".. It was basically the same principle used to separate blue and red cards like an oil and water.. Is he credited or anything ?

After watching NMTAI vol.3, I am now sure it is the same principle. Henry Evans said it was an idea by Body Blake (didn't ear quite well), a magician from Argentina. It is used in an oil and water type of routine but only the faces "change".
