I'm so excited. Tonight I became a Magician Member of the Academy of the Magical Arts at the Magic Castle!
I performed a rope, matrix and a triumph routine and was nervous as all get out. My wife 'forced' me to get on with it and audition tonight and man am I glad she did! Just wanted to share the excitement!
Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Tommy Emmanuel are all you need to study to learn to play guitar.

I would love to join the Magic Castle, but I am in Michigan, and I would like to know if there are out of state members who can really justify the yearly fees, etc., if perhaps only a yearly visit would get you your money's worth.

I think it is worth the money to out of state members even if they never go to the Castle. The prestige and added credentials of being a member, and the ability to give guest passes to clients and friends who may be going to Los Angeles more than outweigh the expense of out of state membership.
I have been a member of the Magic Castle since 1976, and it has always been a big advantage, even when I moved back to the east coast for five years. It was always impressive to my corporate clients that I could get them in to this place that they had heard of, but didn't think they would ever get to see. In fact, I rarely give out guest passes, instead I give them my business card and tell them to call me whenever they want to go. That way I can call the Castle and make their reservation for them. They will keep that business card forever. I have had clients call me five years and more later, and often sparked shows out of the deal. Worth the little bit of trouble to phone in a reservation, yes? |

If we ever meet at the Castle ask me about my audition: it makes for an hilarious story. |

Hey Zak that's great!
Maybe I'll see you up there some Sunday. I know a large group of Juniors seem to meet up there sometimes...

What a coincidence that you heard my name and put two and two together. Nice meeting you in person.
Hope to meet you again, Zak
