While trying to be as short as possible, often we post dubious thoughts. Which when read can be taken several ways. What many seem to be missing here is that our life here on earth, no matter what we think, is not that important. What is important is how you live that life because of your immortal soul. Your immortal soul is important. So, if God were to come down and strike you dead, and you lived a good life up until that time. People would probably say. Why did God do that? Well maybe, just maybe because now you are going to have your immortal soul exist with God for all eternity. So in essence He did you a favor. I am not quite sure why everyone questions God's motives. I guess they feel they know better. It is best summed up in what is know as "The act of Contrition": O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend You, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Your grace and the forgiveness of sins to do penance and amend my life amen. Hope this prayer does not offend anyone.

I was there on 9/11 and I went back to the site a week later. There was nothing that looked like a cross there. There was a mangled wreckage of steel that looked like a metal spider from outerspace. In fact the whole scene was like looking at a scene from a syfy picture.
In my opinion, many of my friends and neighbors (and parishoners) died that day due to religious fantasicism. A religious symbol is the least appropriate symbol for that sacred space in my opinon: a new yorker and a witness. |

No, THIS life is the most precious thing we have. It's the only one we know we have, so we better make the most of it. And the best way to do that is through a spirit of cooperation, empathy, kindness, and understanding. And, by using the tools of science, we can hopefully conquer diseases and alleviate suffering. An attitude of "this life is not that important", or "it's God's will" is a roadblock to creating a better future for everyone. Quote:
I am not quite sure why everyone questions God's motives. I guess they feel they know better. It's more likely that the Bible conveys human motives rather than Godly motives. But that aside, why wouldn't you question someone's motives? Would you blindly obey everything and anything that a God told you to do? If your God told you to kill your own grand child, would you do it? Ron

Didn't your god do them all a favor by freeing their immortal souls from this earthly realm? It of course took the souls of righteous and gave to them their heavenly reward. Aren't they all now in paradise for all eternity? Did not your god cast all those still reeking of sin into the infernal pits of hell much to your delight? By your logic the terrorists were actually an instrument of your god. It used them to deliver the righteous into his all loving embrace. You should be happy. Unless of course, deep down, you really don't believe in heaven and god and the existence of an immortal soul. You hope they exist, you truly do. But you have your doubts. Why else would you be so upset by their untimely (at least by our viewpoint) deaths? For us who live in the real world and understand we only get one shot at life 911 was a horrific tragedy. For those of us who see life as something to be valued any death is tragic. But for you life seems to be cheap and unimportant. Just a quick disposable prelude for an eternal afterlife. At least that's what you dearly hope and pray for. But deep down your really not too sure. At least that's the impression I get from reading your posts.

I looked for pictures of the item as it is displayed - http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/29/us/new-york-911-museum-cross/
no complaints about something that looks like the old warner brothers logo next to it?

There have been several cases over the years where mothers have killed their own children because "God told them to" (you can look them up yourselves - they're easy enough to find). NOBODY is praising these women for being obedient followers of God. They are all behind bars and loathed by society (deservedly so). The type of mindset that blindly obeys the most heinous of acts (and considers it good to boot) is something that we must rid the world of. To get people to fly planes into buildings, strap on suicide vests, or get someone to kill their own children is best done with a religious framework in place. Maybe if the 9/11 terrorists questioned their holy books, we wouldn't have to have this discussion about the WTC, and those 2,900 plus people would still be alive today. Nobody ever suffered from too much questioning and being skeptical. But how much suffering has been caused by people acting impulsively and not thinking things through? Ron

God "tells" people to do all sorts of horrific things. Some folks call it psychosis. Me, I call it a Kaiser blade.

And in other news, if you thought theists had thin skin, apparently this piece of metal (according to Atheists) has "caused people to suffer depression, headaches, anxiety, and mental pain and anguish," as well as indigestion! Moreover, including it as a single piece in the museum is causing "the 500 atheists who died on 9/11 go unnoticed." http://christiannews.net/2013/03/30/fede......-museum/
