I haven't gotten my zipper yet, but I did use the purse frame today for a group of guys, when I was asked to do something on the spot.
Did it for a pretty sharp guy, or at least they all thought he was because he's some sort of big boss…Yeah RIGHT! I love those types, as they fall like any other tree when it comes to magic.
Anyway, I pulled out the old purse frame and just did a basic production from it…I just love to show the thing empty, shake it near their ears, and then I actually let them see me pull the coin from behind me…Blows people out their shoes, each & every time! I believe his actual words were something like, "What the *#&*^#%&!"
I always want to do a routine with it but never get around to it because honestly, that's where I open the door with one coin. But if I did do a routine, I would do my old buddy, Tim Feher's, "Somthin' or Nothin'"… Just a wonderful little purse frame routine with some great moves to it. Would love to see how Ol' Tim would adapt this to use with a zipper? That guy was/is amazing!

I like that idea a lot, Jonathan. Pulling a solid object or objects from a phone is appealing for the same reason that 99% of magic apps are not. Thanks for that idea.

Using pictures and the pinch/swipe actions to act on a picture or switch the picture (or use a video file to play a sequence - miming the actions in time) is natural for that object. And nobody says you can't carry an extra phone (or something that looks like a phone) which you table on occasion. I've been expecting to see fake iPhones that are shells or just iPods with extra room to conceal stuff ... Have at - and do what works for you.
Any thoughts on a axTell type animated face on the phone or a fake "facetime" where it's all pre-recorded? Okay back to the picture of a coinpurse and a second picture of an open coin purse.
Note Bene: there is a long history of using "off the screen" in magic. This goes back at least as far as Gertie the Dinosaur. Using a phone/MP4 player has also been explored a bit by one of the NY guys who showed around a fine application where a quarter seems to get pushed into the phone video and floats around in there. There are also some videos online of a guy who shakes coins out of his phone.

Hey JT, maybe you could show us how it would look with a little video, sounds simple enough to do. Or perhaps tomski can help bring it to life for us here? Let's see what you got guys.

For the entrepreneurially inclined, that's an amazing gift right there, folks. Wow. Maybe no one will notice.

Pour your purse frame out of your purse and some coins.

two pics and a wmv ready to go. Marion, Jack would you like the files to look at and forward? Need email address. It's just a purse with a coin showing. Using the thumb slide to change the pic as well as make a pulling action at the screen and a coin production on that little video.

Thank you, Ben
I really feel the ordinary purse looks out-dated

Yes, JT sent it to me and it's a nice idea and would make for an interesting production of coin from a photo. The raw use of the technology to help facilitate the action makes it a real cutey-pie.
I've even set this up to play with myself…Pretty cool! I'm playing with (instead of picking the coin out of the picture - because you gotta get that swiping motion just right) tossing the coin out of the picture into my right hand, using a FSP…Looks pretty darn good, perhaps even stunning.
Happy that Ben brought up this topic as to the zippers, as it really has prompted deeper thinking and some clever ideas. Seeds are planted, let's see what happens. I can tell you this, I'm going to use JTs picture suggestion first thing Monday morning. I've got the actions down pretty good now.
And thanks JT for the initial vid and pics. I'd like to see you keep working on this as it should be as easy to put the coin back into the picture, and maybe do a few other neat virtual maneuvers. Good thinking, JT. ![]()

I do a 1-coin flurry as an opener. I think Jonathon's idea to have a video playing on your phone that coincides with the routine would be great!
So after some sleight of hand the coin vanishes from your hands and appears in the phone, then gets plucked out, more sleights, shoved back into the phone, shaken out, then maybe feign dropping the coin and it lands in the phone again, etc, etc. If you set the routine to music, then that would be your motivation for messing with the phone at the beginning (actually starting up the video). And it would keep you in sync with the video. The video would be of the song page you have pulled up, then the coin would appear and vanish from that screen. I don't think anyone would notice that the progress bar of the song never moved. I think I have a Saturday afternoon project..... Click here to view attached image.

You can take a pic of four quarters, one of a silver dollar and two of the empty purse to have one on either side.
You can use the base of your thumb to slide the screen as in the Roth chink-a-chink to get a no-touch look for an image change. As a result of the above: you can take out your virtual coin purse, drop in a silver dollar, change the dollar into four quarters, then dump out the four quarters. Other applications to explore are transpositions and production routines. Imagine a folder of pictures in which coins appear. Dave, how about using your rattle gimick to add some sound to the moment when a bunch of coins are seeming to be in an image. The video file setup for synchronized action routines is taking me a while to design production. Anyone here good with video? using a thirty second video clip has advantages over using sleights to swap pictures. Happy Saturday folks. see where the day takes you. suggestions / ideas? :) JonT

How are folks doing with their smartphones?

They are interested In us as well as our Magic! So if we start going down that road There is a lot of stuff we are not going To Use! David Harky Tried To do that in some stuff he had in genii A wile back, And in his book! SO throw out your purse frame??? No!!! Just take the time to talk to people about what it is!

David,
You take the dinner check, roll it up and start the patter. Then three crumpled dollar bills come into play. Later two fortune cookies and an orange. getting dainty and doing Cartman's tea party is ... not always the best way to present magic.
