I had one of the early Sanada gimmicks, which I used tonight for a gig, until it shattered like glass for some odd reason. Are the ones sold today any better?

I would like to know also, as mine was in my back pocket and when I sit down, it broke in half. That kind of plastic should not dry out and break so easily, in my opinion.

I guess they do need to keep sales up with the manufacturing process. LOL

The Sanada gimmick is one of the most durable props I've ever owned. It's been in my magic drawer for at least 10 years; I just checked and it's like brand new!

There is a "new" Snanada gimmick made of a more flexible material called Sanada G but I believe it is only sold with an instructional DVD. The complete package is called Sanada gimmick with routines and retials for around $45.00. IT is priced high considering the "regular" standard Sanada gimmick is aorund $4.00.

I understand that the Sanada G is no longer made. Having to shell out $45 must have ruined sales. I might as well buy a bunch of the old style of gimmick.

Alan,

You may be able to find the DVD and G gimmick being sold. If you already have a routine that you use the sanada for, then you will be bettter off with getting a couple of regular sanada gimmicks and not spend $45.00 plus shipping for one gimmick with a video.

Straight out of the package mine last about... 6 months or so with heavy use before cracking.
I have found that if you line the inside of the gimmick with flesh colored felt, it stays flexible and much more durable than just out of the package. This also allows for other features to be added.

My gimmick is amazingly durable...however it's not that old. Maybe it'll dry out in a few years and get brittle. I only paid a few bucks so if it does end up getting brittle it's no big deal.

Heck, I have gone through Vernet standard thumbtips faster! Actually I haven't worn out or broken a Sanada gimmick yet. But then again I haven't used it as much as many have. Just started using it a lot more, so I may find out soon.

My Vernet TTs have had a tendency to split along the side seams. Still usable but can pinch now and then.

It was the first gig I had used it on. I brought it along to other gigs. I think it was stressed from how it was stored and what was in my pocket, when someone bumped into me. I'm going to be more careful, next time. I'll keep it in a protective box and I may use something to seal-in moisture.

Wow, that doesn’t sound right Alan. It shouldn’t fail under those conditions. You might want to return it for another.

Just seems to be a strange thing to worry over if you're gigging... TTs and S&ada gimmicks are cheap, just buy a few in and keep them in their original packing surely?!

Sanadas have to be modified before use, Iain. It's not like with a TT where you can just slip it on right out of the package.

In a lecture, Stephen Bargatze addressed the breakage issue with the Sonada gimmick.
He said he glues two of them together and that by doing that the resulting gimmick lasts a very long time.
When you buy his "balls in the net" routine, he includes two so you can do this.

Amazingly I just found a Sanada Gimmick in a show box of stuff in the garage. From Tannen's, instruction sheet included along with a small sponge ball.

This has to be 30 to 40 years old.

They must be cut to fit the performer's hand. If you're one of the few who it fits right out of the package, more power to ya! Most of us have to trim the top. A properly fitted Sanada will fit firmly at the base of the fingers and the top edge will be just at the first joint of the fingers down from the fingertips.
