Hi mates,
after my little coin Routine I built around Michael Eatons splinter production, enclosed the link... http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=3&10 i thought maybe I should share some other (original) coin sleigths I am doing for years...hope you like it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWgVez40qW8&feature=youtu.be if you think it is useful or inspiring I can post some other vids e.g. a nice retention vanish were you immediately can extend your fingers after you put the coin into your hand... all the best Max |

What you make effortlessly appear at your fingertips is not easily missed should it go will-o-the-wisp. What you seem to conceal elicits appreciation for skill. How about trying for magic?

I think it's nicely done max, and would love to see what else you've been up to.
The hands look clean after every motion, nicely done, I say.
I also have some "pet" moves that I have done for years as well. Not sure they are completely original but I don't see anyone else doing it? Anyway, these moves certainly become part of you, you just seem to do them all the time and they are very deceptive, as you also show in what you do here. I have a little set I seem to do quite regularly in producing a coin, just part of me now, I guess. I do it all the time and people are amazed, and the best part is, most times I'm just getting started.
Again, good job and "More," please. ![]()

Hi mates,
@Jonathan: to be honest I don't get your statement...nevertehless thx...the sleigths are only moves I like to do, because I think the basis of magic is craftmanship...real magic is much more... @mb: thx again... |

Awesome! You should consider putting out a dvd with your moves and routines.

Max, the sleights look useful.
the master carpenter may have fine tools. but he's selling his workmanship, the result of his expertise and tool use... Fine furniture, objects, results. Magic is an outcome, a result. Fine tools and craftsmanship are part of the means used to that end. What do those sleights allow you to accomplish which ends up seeming more magical than what is commonly done using common tools? Go for the magic.

This wouldn't work as the last coin in a three-fly routine?

Looks pretty darn good to me. You got me when you turned you hand over so casually. Very magical, all around.

I don't know, maybe I'm not up on the latest moves, but I have no idea what's going on with that one-handed vanish. It doesn't appear to me to be "obvious manipulation."

I very much enjoyed your one handed vanish Max...Keep it up. I look forward to more of your videos...I, too was not sure what to make of Mr Townsend's post above, as it sent my simpleton mind into a tizzy. All I know is that magic is in the eye of the beholder and it was very magical in my opinion

Max, try out your sleight in context of the Downs routine. Find out if it is deceptive by using it in a trick like the coin casket or something smaller like a Boston Box. You can find the Downs item in Henry Hays Amateur Magicians Handbook. The Boston box is described in Bobo's book.
Of course if it works in the Downs trick you might want to try it in some version of the cap and pence trick too.

I too couldn't follow Jonathan's statements, and to tell the truth I didn't watch the clip but only read the thread, but would say this; try it on laymen ! It is hard to get a good 'read' from magicians. If laymen are amazed, it could be magic. If magicians are amazed it could be something else. Regards, Gregg Webb

Very sound technically. I understand Johnathan's position of this (or at least I hope that is the case!): while the moves look practically perfect, there is no element of mystery, suspense, anticipation nor surprise or astonishment, much less the ever-rare "OGM, you must be a REAL MAGICIAN" comments we all love to hear. I suppose for me the easiest analogies come from my study of music: it's as if you were a skilled sight reader, that is you can pick up any piece and read/play note for note. However, there is much more to music than the mechanics. In my book a good improvider is at a true artist, while the gifted musical notation reader is limited by what he/she reads on the pages...does this make any sense whatsoever ???

If they can sense the mechanics ( and not the pretend ones like coin dissolving woofle dust ) then they are not so much deceived as impressed by skill.
