One of my favorites was Jerry Rubin's "Steal This Book!"

Caused all kinds of problems in the bookstores.

I think that was Abbie Hoffman. I had the book and there were a few useful scams and life hacks in it.

A little hypocritical on Hoffman's part since if the book was stolen, the cover couldn't be returned for refund as is the practice with unsold books and it would count as a sale for which Hoffman would get royalties.

I found a PDF of the book online which you could download thus you'd really be stealing the book as no one would get any royalties from your possession of the text.

Actually, it probably wouldn't have made any difference. Since no publisher was willing to publish the book (a Random House editor said he wouldn't want his kids reading it), Hoffman started his own company and published the book himself.

That said, he could have subtitled it "But be sure to tear off the cover and give it to the clerk as you leave the store."

Concurrent with Rubin and Hoffman, Tuli Kupferberg wrote a booklet titled "1001 Ways to Beat the Draft" in 1966. Hilarious reading for those of us who were hounded by our draft boards at the time; although most of the 'ways' he mentioned weren't really plausible or possible. But they were funny! Lynn

Yes, I remember that book! It was great. (I actually brought a copy to boot camp with me!)
