According to The Wall Street Journal and Fox News the latest evidence shows all 3 tracking systems on the airliner were turned off manually and at different times. They also indicated the plane may have flown for 4-5 hours after the last transmission. There is speculation that the plane may have been "stolen" and landed at an undisclosed location.
This story just keeps getting weirder and weirder. |

I'm beginning to think that maybe it did land someplace, and if that's the case, the hijackers were savvy about what they were doing. But who knows what to believe at this point? Still a strange story that keeps us all wondering.

Military radar-tracking evidence shows it went West. It seems that the pilot has taken it or it has been taken by some skillful means West.

When I look at the loadsheet and load notifications, prior to flying (and we are carrying lots of gold for example), I often joke with the other pilot about how we should pinch the plane by doing a dirty dive over the water and recovering at low level to find some runway somewhere.....sell the aeroplane to the highest bidder and abscond with the loot......looks like somebody took me at face value......!! Bit tricky, though, trying to find a deserted strip big enough for my aerial conveyance that is suitably quiet! Make a good novel one day, when I retire!

Despite what they say, I'm a bit suspicious.
http://dailycurrant.com/2014/03/11/dharm......-flight/ "The secretive scientific research organization known as "The Dharma Initiative" has denied responsibility for the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370." "Just because a Boeing 777 took off on a long-haul flight, changed course unexpectedly and wound up somewhere off the coast of Indonesia does NOT mean that we were involved. "The Dharma Initiative has come a long way since the days when we lured international flights to deserted islands that cannot be seen by the outside world. Please stop calling us. Please stop emailing us. Please stop spamming our Twitter feed. We are NOT responsible for this disappearance." |

Many have been concerned by the seeming vanish here- ie. how can the "experts" have no clue where this plane is, how can it just disappear? Why can't present day technology detect it? We're hearing now, I think, that information from the engine was sent out, and detected, for at least 5 hours after the transponders went offline. So the detecting capability is present, afterall, but, naturally, information is being released at a delayed rate, and, I suspect, likely being withheld from the public, as well.

I just saw a documentary on a plane which disappeared in 2009, flight 447 en route from Paris to Rio. They found it 5 days later in pieces. There had been no cell communication, no Maydays etc; but they did manage to solve a lot of the mystery weeks later. The 'pitot' airspeed indicators had clogged with supercool water in a very sudden storm, and the onboard electronics then began to fail one by one. The plane stalled and went down in seconds with the pilots unable to even understand basic speed/engine thrust, lift, orientation, etc . In short, the investigators figured that many pilots are becoming too accustomed to computer controls (and so many screens to keep track of) that many perhaps have difficulty with the manual overrides.
So for now the mystery remains; and I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. Lynn |

I'm not so sure the latest developments don't indicate some kind of collusion. Repeaat, I'm not so sure. It's beginning to look like criminal activity from somewhere. Certainly if the plane was in the air for several hours as seems to be the case from reports tonight, someone in the cockpit knew what he/she/they were doing. Or perhaps ordered the pilot and co-pilot to do certain things.
I can easily see where this plane could have been hijacked, landed and prepped for a future terror attack, a la 911. Still, a mystery. I hope it gets solved.

New info tonight shows the plane went from a cruising altitude of 35,000 ft up to 45,000 ft (legal high safe limit is 43,500), then down to 23,000 ft. If this were a Clancey novel I would say hijackers donned oxygen masks, depressurized the cabin and went to 45,000 ft to knock out the passengers then down to 23,000 to get below radar detection. The plane is now sitting on some remote island (like Bob said) being prepped for stage 2.

Megyn Kelly had an interesting hour with several aviation experts with give and take, and although the opinions are all over the place, one suggested that very scenario. Taking the plane to 45,000 feet, depressurizing the cabin, killing the passengers, though I'm not sure that expert said the cockpit remained pressurized and the need for oxygen masks wasn't mentioned, then taking it back to levels suggested by captainsmiffy a few posts ago.

You can't just land it on a beach or road, you know. So MAYBE someone took over one of the few landing strips in the region ... but if that was the case, I think we would have heard about it by now.

This article posts some good information, I think.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-......r-hours/ If this was planned, maybe someone made a new airstrip. Plenty of uninhabited area in some of the "target" locations. |
