"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

The following was emailed to me by Inside Magic Productions. Hope I can paste it here - to repeat what I said in another thread where this scum posted this piece of cr*pola, I'm a lousy computer person, really. Difficult for me ordinarily but more so since I'm involved with trying to complete my LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Volume 5 (my re-write, update, etc., of DOUG EDWARDS PACKS A WALLOP, THE HIMBER WALLET BOOK, MATHEMATICAL WIZARDRY, etc.) Obviously the last of the series, since I have no more books to re-write!! And, again, thanks so much Mr. Pue and Mr. Straphanger for this plug opportunity - I am so grateful. Here's the e-mail from Inside Magic Prods:
Dear Mr Harry Lorayne, Thank you for your email. As we are just a production house for magic videos and trailers for magicians, we have kindly contacted the inventor of the effect, Jeremy Cheang. Since he is currently overseas, we are assisting him to reply to you. This is what he said: " Dear Sir, I am Jeremy Cheang, the creator of Jem Change. 6 years ago, I was playing with my bicycle cards using one hand in Manila, Philippines. Somehow, while I was cutting the deck and using 2 cards, I thought I came up with the Jem Change. I showed this effect in my shows and to other international magicians. They were very impressed by the move and said that they did not see this move or effect before. Prior to releasing this move on the market, I had consulted my friends again and did my own research. However, I did not find a move that was similar to Jem Change. Little did I realize that Jem Change is actually your "Ultra Move". It was a genuine coincidence and I had no intention to steal the move from you, Mr Harry Lorayne. Yours Sincerely, Jeremy Cheang Regards, Inside Magic Productions

To you it may not be a difficult sleight but to blithely tell someone to try coin magic and your subtext is that she/he shouldn't be performing card magic isn't exactly friendly. There is a thread about sleighrts people cannot do. Did you contribute Alewishus or can you do it all? |

I can't do a decent pass, and have often thought of giving it all up because of this...
I've been told I have a good pass, but that's not true, and my second deal is ****ty. I've ordered the Lovell book to see if there is anything there that can help me with my second deal. May still give it all up. A.

Alewishus: Been doing impromptu card magic, both professionally and not, for many decades - haven't used a pass or a second deal yet.

I want to offer an analogy and even though you may not like the group, please bear with me? What if The Beatles has decided to chuck it all in the bin because none of them could read a note of music? This is a band who had no formal training and yet revolutionized modern music, saved classical music from irrelevance and even rescued it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-mW9CjCHfc). How about Slydini? He was self-taught and to my knowledge didn't execute many of the sleights considered "essential" in magic yet there is no denying that Slydini is a towering influence on the art. One of the most wonderful accounts I've read about Slydini focused on one of the first conventions he was invited to. He was asked to perform and he stated that he brought nothing. Ade Duval secured a dye tube for Slydini, and, this is important, everyone KNEW that Ade Duval had secured a dye tube for Slydini. Anyhow, Slydini completely blew away the attendees using a prop that all knew and all knew he was using! Harry Lorayne already mentioned he doesn'r second deal, and he doesn't execute a pass. I must assume he means a classic pass as he does execute and teach a variant of LePaul's Spread Pass. Also, ask him about the Side Steal; it's a great story. I cannot hit a perfect faro 100 percent of the time. Does that mean I should quit magic? Daryl, a FISM winner, doesn't execute a single pass in his work and moreover, doesn't teach it in his Encyclopedia of Card Sleights. I don't know you Alewishus but I will wager that Daryl can make us look like rookies. As for the Lovell book Second to None, I really love it and I feel very comfortable now with dealing seconds. I had the privilege of seeing Simon demonstrate every technique in the book and the execution was flawless. Don't chuck magic in the bin! You know you love the art! Slainte, Vlad |

Most of the effects that I use to fry people are automatic or semi-automatic. A few examples? - Insured Prediction (Giobbi's handling of a Racherbaumer/Lorayne's effect in Card College 5) - Contact Colours (by Colombini) - Shuffle bored (by Simon Aronson) - The Magus Card (Roberto Giobbi Card College 1) - Neither Blind nor Silly (Juan Tamariz) possibly followed by - Galaxy (Paul Harris) - Colour Monte - Max Maven's B'Wave (always in my wallet) - Gardner/Marlo's Poker Demonstration and I could go on... At the same time this doesn't mean I do not try Faro's, Side Steals, Colour Changes and Riffle Shuffle Stacking. In Italian we say "Impara l'arte e mettila da parte" which means "Learn the art and then put it aside". Sooner or later you'll find a use for it. Good luck and don't give up! mlippo |
