Lately I've been bringing a pen-though-whatever along with a shell penny and regular dime as a followup with the "special" end of the pen. Much as I try to resist, I almost always have dental floss ready for the Gypsy Thread. I'm too old to change now.
At least I've stopped carrying around that thin model sawing everywhere I go.... |

I never leave home without my wallet, of course. And in that, I always have Extreme Burn, Powerball 60, blank business cards. Also a great mentalism routine called Shortlist from the Stealth Assassin DVD

I always have a deck of standard Bicycles, my invisible deck (with the box held shut by two rubber bands), two more rubber bands on my wrist, and I usually have a gimmicked bottle/pen for Calen Morelli's pen through bottle trick in my car. Oh, I also usually have a notecard in my wallet for a prediction routine.

Always a deck of cards (at the moment, Tally-Ho's circle backs for the wheel illusion ).
Always one or two old nice coins to do a production/vanish or coin from cards. My wallet (in which cards can be loaded) If I happen to have a lot more pockets then I also add a deck of contrasting color, an omnideck (you never know when you have to flee!) and a small notepad plus pen This, plus anything else I can find around, rolling papers (TnR) or paper napkin (Slydini's TnR), or some loose coins I borrow to do Slydini's Coins Through Table. |

I carry a small rock (as well as pocket change) with me and do tricks with the rock (and, of course the pocket change) when appropriate.
I published some effects with “rocks” on the Perverse Magic thread of the Genii Forum on December 1, 2009 something like: 1 The Color Changing Grape (Olive – etc etc) At a dinner table when asked to do an effect you ask a spectator to put a grape or an olive in your left hand and you tell the group that you are going to make it change color. You drop the grape into your right fist and when you open your right fist a rock falls to the table. You shake your head in confusion. 2 The Cough The magician starts to cough violently and , as is done when one coughs, his cupped right hand is brought to his mouth and when it comes away there is a large rock in his hand much to the confusion of the magician. Notes: A Of course good judgment will dictate when and where it’s appropriate to do this. I mentioned in another thread on this forum that I did this once at a client’s office and left the rock on the receptionist’s desk and the next time I called that office the receptionist started laughing uncontrollably when she recognized my voice. B It’s probably less dignified to use a sneeze instead of a cough 3 In The Woods Of course woods are where rocks are found and I’ve used this on occasion. I’ll pick up various rocks as if I’m looking for one in particular and finally I say, “This is one!” and I change the rock into a quarter and pocket the quarter. |

I am thinking through what I'd go with if I was "going organic", i.e. what makes sense for a normal (ok, maybe not that normal) guy to carry. Some of the items on the list to winnow down from...
Wearable: ring, Gregory Wilson's dog tag effect Wallet: Paper money tricks like Extreme Burn, mis-made bill (plus maybe make the wallet a milti-purpose item itself by getting one of the billion peak or card-to-wallet wallets, etc.) Keychain: Freaky, Color Change knife Misc.: Thumb Tip, quarters |
