Haha creepy subject title. I've been watching this forum for a very long time. But I never created a account. But after a few years. This year I finally decide to make one. After watching David Blaine Real or Magic special 2-3 months ago. I decide to go back and watch his old ones. Being from NYC (Brooklyn) I have been to all of his stunts in the NYC. So I learned all of his old (and even new ones) card tricks. That simply amazed me back then. But to find out that most of his tricks are super simple. I was shocked. And started doing them myself. 2-3 months in my friends think I'm some demon or something lol.
After learning about 3 tricks. I kept going and going! Now I know about 50 different tricks. It's only been a 3 months. But someone last night couldn't believe that it's only been so long and I'm pretty good. Now I can see a card trick done (Dynamo or Blaine). And know exactly how it done by breaking it down. 2 tricks I learned from just watching once are card to shoe and card under watch. I believe the MCF is very beautiful. Because the spectator can never understand how the card got folded. This is without any dvd instruction. I've only read RRCM and Card College 1-5. Right now I'm working on pick pocketing. Or really reverse pick pocketing. Trying to place cards on spectators without them knowing. I've done it twice. And the effects were really powerful. The only question I really want to ask is about the Travellor (Dai Vernon I think) effect with a card. Is it better that the spectators get to see the deck, look for their card, and see that it's gone. Or just tell them where the card is. Does anyone have directions where I can read more about it? I've done it both ways. I usually control the card and do some sort of palm. But if I have someone one who wants to put the card back in the deck themselves. I'll hand the deck over. And it's just as powerful. Because they have no clue the trick is pretty much done. I've also learned Stand Up Monte. Which has been a huge hit with everyone expect my girlfriend. She kind of been overexposed at this point lol. But thanks for reading. |

Welcome jeebs9,
I'm glad things are going so well. If I were you I'd slow down on acquisition and settle in on performance for a while. That is just a general piece of advice for all new Magicians since I've never seen your work. Do keep a journal of your progress. At this speed it won't be long before you've forgotten some of the effects in your repertoire so keep a list. -Mary Mowder |

Thanks for the advice Mary! But I do keep a list. I have about 5-8 go to tricks that I do every time I'm out. Their cards tricks that I've learned from David Blaine first special. The other tricks I pull out once in a while. Or once I've had enough practice.
I don't really consider myself a magician like some of you guys. I'm just a guy doing card tricks haha. But do you have any advice on loading spectators with cards? |

Hi. I don't know if you have seen any of Greg Wilson's work. He shows a lot of techniques for doing what you are looking for. For example, he builds comfort in touching his participants by moving their hands or shoulders to reposition them. You might want to check out 'on the spot'.

Thanks KJ!! It is something I try to do a lot with a spec. Just touching them for no reason.
I guess I'll ask my other questions in the other forum. Thanks again!! |
