I really enjoyed “Magic of Thinking Creatively”, but I was just fascinated by the section on how your business cards “evolved” over the years. Looking back, what are your thoughts about promotional material, particularly business cards? Is there any way to get to the final product quickly (IS there really a “final” product), or is every step absolutely necessary for learning?
And also (in hindsight) would you ever (still) design a card specifically so it can be used in an effect? (...thinking about the Insurance card...) Any thoughts you have will be appreciated! Thanks, Don
...what if I could read your mind?

Thanks for owning my book. I think business cards are the same as everything else in our shows. We evolve. When I look back on early video of myself I'm embarrassed at what I did. But I also understand it was part of the process. On the other hand, if I could have afforded some of the people I work with now in marketing then I could have jumped several steps. The other problem with youth is that we believe we know more than everyone else. Can't fix stupid.
Now back to business cards. I'm really the worst person to ask. I rarely use them because I believe it's more important to get the addresses, or business cards of the people I meet. I think most people probably lose business cards but if I meet you I put you into my system and on my email client newsletter list and I work you til the day you die. That's the most important think I've learned over the years. I hope that answers your question. |

And not just your current clients, but your potential clients. I assume this was referring to your show clients (and potential show clients), and not necessarily to the (magician and clown) clients who buy your products. How often do you work your list, and what do you send to them? Would you send a different email to a current / past client, as opposed to a potential client? - Donald

I have a client newsletter that goes out every week. My product newsletter goes out twice a month on the 1st and 15th.
