I visited Alaska a few years ago and fell in love with the art and stories of the First Nations. A classic is the story about the raven stealing the sun and moon and I wanted to tell that story using magic ever since. There are many versions of the story, there is one here: http://childrenofthesun.net/raven.html
Now having a raven's feather turning from white to black is easy. The part about the stars could be told using a funken ring. I'm a stuck however on the sun and moon part of the story. Anyone have any ideas? |

No eureka moment, yet, but like I said, I'm stuck, now I got something to think about. Thanks. |

I live in Alaska, and have for 26 years. This is one of my favorite Native stories as well.
Did you ever figure out a magical telling? Patrick |

Could a Fr*****n pen drawing be used? Draw pictures relevant to the story. Fire from a candle could provide the means to make the pictures disappear

I think the story you chose has the making to be surrounded by some awesome magic and really could be a beautiful performance pieces. I am just going to throw out a few ideas for the sun and moon portion and hopefully you might like them.
Personally my top chose would possibly be sponge balls. Every element can be done with these. A surprise appearance from no where then, then splitting to make two, and a final load of a bunch of smaller sponges that spill out of the hands ….you can do color changes, vanishes, re appearances …. Changes to shapes and sizes…. With all of that going on…classic misdirection can lead you to producing SOLID non-sponge items…. Like a solid crystal ball for the moon and a larger Yellow ball or piece of yellowish fruit like a grapefruit…. Also though of possible billiard balls here could work. Maybe something that was a modification of those all of those require a lot of hand manipulation/ sleights Or the cups and balls or chop cup type routine…. Working on making the appearance and disappearances of the little balls used in those type of routine… also leading to a surprise ending in which a lot of things could end up under the cup… could use the feather as a wand during this to add to misdirection I have seen many magicians on specials “pull” like sodas, or water or food off of posters or pictures…. This would be a great idea if you had a story book that contained pictures and you pulled the objects right off the page.. here is a link to watch so you get what I am talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujaMvPUBcvY You could also use coins D’lite Silk magic yellow for sun and white for moon black for the night sky…. I hoped this helped |

the billiard ball manipulation can be done with golf balls.... different colors and the sizing is helpful |

Thank you for sharing that wonderful story Yannou.
Here are some possibly cool ideas: For the Sun and the Moon you could use the Sun & Moon Coin - http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S10235 For the smoke you could use Smoke from Fingers - http://carlyletouch.com/Real_Smoke_from_Fingers.html for the water you could use a Lota Bowl or Pot - http://www.martinbreese.com/trickpages/lota.htm |
