Hey guys,
I was wondering if you could help me compile a list here of some of your favorite packet tricks with blank cards. When you post an effect, can you please give a brief description of it? Thank you in advance. Your help is very much appreciated! Zack Johnston |

I think that both of these are available on Michael Ammar's ETMCM videos. Not sure which volumes:
Factory Misprints, By J.C. Wagner - 4 blank faced cards print one-by-one to become 4 of a kind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHhmAJqAoN4 Paramount, By Aldo Columbini - A spec's signed card is printed in stages onto a blank card. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTil8OomC_4 |

My favorite, Alex Elmsleys 4 card trick from The Collected Works of Alex Elmsley Vol 1. Also on WGM Packet Tricks and Alex Elmsley Tahoe Sessions (both from L&L). The book explains that it was the trick that he invented the "Ghost Count" for. (Later to be renamed "the Elmsley Count").
Uses 3 blanks and a Joker (with a different back). (Some variations use any odd backed card ie. QS) patter / presentation can be done as a monte type routine or follow the card. I have my own patter of my wife buying me "trick cards" but she got tricked, they were "blanks"... I couldn't find a video worthy of posting. Too many leave out key elements of the handling (but that is the youtube generation for ya) I highly recomend the book (you can get it on sale for $10 at llepub.com (vol2 is on sale now but check back for vol1 it goes on sale every so often) also the packet tricks dvd (WGM) from L&L has Elmsley himself doing it.

"Irish Poker Hand" published in The Dave Campbell Legacy written by Peter Duffie.
This is a great effect in which the performer tells the story of playing "Irish Poker." Five blank cards defy the conventional rules of Poker in this great routine and change into the four Kings, which THEN change to the four Aces. "Transpo Print" is the same book is a Jazz Aces/Printing mashup. The handling is beautifully constructed. Zack, I did a sort of review of The Dave Campbell Legacy a couple of years ago. It really is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it. Anyhow, hope these help! Slainte, Vlad |

Adding to the growing list is Steve Dacri's Signature Wild Card. It's is (obviously) a wild card effect done with signatures on blank cards. While the effect isn't original with Steve Dacri, I do think his handling is splendid. The effect can be found in his lecture notes.
When I worked for John Blake in the early 2000s, we had the privilege of Steve Dacri and his lovely wife Jan lecture at the shop. Steve and Jan were such a cool couple and Steve Dacri's chops and presentation were in my estimation, impeccable. Steve understood very well what "works" in the real world and his instructional work is on par with that of people like Paul Green - VERY high praise indeed. Also, while not strictly a "packet" trick," John Bannon's Twilight Zone Assembly from his classic book Smoke and Mirrors is well worth a look. I'm having fun seeking out effects for this thread! Yes, I know it would be much easier to use Denis Behr's archive, but there is something more satisfying about actually trying out effects before recommending them in a resource thread like this. I am hopeful that in time the admins will decide to sticky bun this thread as I believe it will grow into a valuable resource. Thank you for creating the thread Zack! Slainte, Vlad PS: Nick Trost has released a few cool routines with blank cards. When time permits - life is taking a severe downward spiral right now - I will post some that I have found. PPS: Also, checked out Peter Duffie's marketed effect titled "Bleached." It is monte type effect that is similar to Richard Vollmer's Poor Man's Monte but with some neat twists. |

The Invisible Wand, by Larry West and Al Cohen, is an oldie but goodie blank card effect. Wiz Kid Qua-Fiki used the principle twice - first in his "No Fishing - Go Fishing" trick from his book "Go Fish Magic," and once again in his Super Hero Magic Book under the name "The Invisible Man Strikes Again." I especially like the way he makes the Invisible Man appear INSIDE the blank card at the end by holding the card up to the light. His latest use of the principle with blank Jumbo Cards is in his "Birthday Bunnies" trick in The Wizards' Journal #25.

If you like blank cards and you have John Bannon's Impossibilia, he has a great one called Twilight Zone Assembly. It is not a packet trick, it's like a slow motion ace assembly with blank cards.

The spectator chooses a card. For example, Jack of Spades.
The performer show four blank cards. The spectator's card is put into the blank packet and now all four blank cards, suddenly have the backs and faces. The chosen card is set aside. The four Jack of Spades change back into blank cards. I made a short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzweHxTC1a4&feature=youtu.be Zack, I hope this video will help you further. |

You start of with 4 double-blank cards. The printing sequence is as follows: 1.) The backs print slowly, then 2.) The faces do the same, then 3.) The cards transform back into double blanks. The Spade Trick by Craig Petty: 1.) A spectator signs a card, then 2.) A double-blank card prints (yes again) into the signed card. Wild Blank by Craig Petty: 1.) There are 4 blank cards. 2.) A card is selected. 3.) They all transform into the selected card. These are a few of my favorites from Craig's BLANK DVD: http://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic/card-magic/blank/ Every once in a while, when this list grows to a substantial size, I will make a list of the suggested packet tricks with blank cards including the description. On Mar 31, 2014, dj wrote: Now, that the cat is out of the bag, I'd like to second the recommendation, as Wild Nudist is one of the strongest packet tricks you can do, IMHO. It's in my active repertoire for more than 20 years now, and I perform it at every payed gig I do. As far as I know, it was first published in the german magic magazine "Magische Welt" in 1990 as "Spezielle Karten" which means "Special Cards". The title betrays the presentational theme which is excellent: it's about many people's preconception, that magicians use special cards for their miracles. You are going to show them a couple of your own very special cards. The special thing about those cards is, that there is absolutely nothing special about them. They're just unprinted cards with no ink on them on both sides. Then you demonstrate that your special cards can take over the identity of any card. Instant cloning if you will. Without words the performance on the video may appear a little bit too procedural, but in actual performance it doesn't feel like that at all. The routine plays very strong. There's also a healthy dose of situational humor as well as wordplay in it, so you don't have to be or pretend to be a funny guy to get smiles or laughs. And they WILL gasp. It's so visually stunning, you almost fool yourself when you do it. It's a trick they talk about later. Use the most convincing force you can do. Be smart and carry several sets for repeat performances (poor man's version of Tommy Wonder's solution): a spectator who has seen it once, will experience an even deeper mystery the second time around. Quite a long post considering the fact, that I really didn't want to talk about this gem in the first place, if you know what I mean, and I think you do... |

"Wild Nudist" certainly looks good (nice video, dj). Are there any resources to learn it from nowadays? Searching turned up nothing, for me. Larry |

I think it might be called "wild business" not nudist.

He shows a number of blank cards (both sides) and then a sheet bearing various identical labels. He sticks one label on one of the cards. In perfect Wild Card fashion, all cards end up having labels on them! Then he shows the sheet where he took the first label from and now all the other labels are missing! mlippo |

Peter Marshall Really Wild Jokers Apocalypse (Vol. 6, No. 8) 1983 is similar to Wild Purist except it uses Jokers but in the Afterthoughts it was mention you could also use blank cards.
