Does anyone remember the old Virtual Soundman iCue2 (squared) music controllers? I have one with ALL the accessories but no iPod. Does anyone have any idea what iPod worked with these? Is there some place on line to find these old iPods?
Thanks, Edd

Hello Edd,
Apologies if my memory is letting me down, but I think my iCue2 (which I got rid of a long time ago) used to work with a mini-disc player, not an iPod. |

In later years they released one that worked with certain iPods... I sold mine when Apple started releasing new models that weren't compatible.
I don't remember for sure, but I seem to remember using it with this one... I'm 99% it's compatible: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iPod-class......e2629f27 Honestly? You'd do well to invest in something more modern. If you use a Mac I have a free app you can download which does the same thing. You can find it at www.RemoteCue.com - It works with any presentation remote. Alternatively my buddy has some really nice remotes for sale that work with it. The software is free though. |

Hello everyone
Yes, the old iCue2 has gone the way of the dinosaur. The last supported Apple product was the First Generation iPod Nano. It looks like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iPod-nano-......7fdb33ac as you’d expect, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find these old units and even if you do, they do not have near the memory of the newer iPhones, iPods, etc. Starting with the 2nd generation Nano and continuing through all the current Apple iOS products (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, etc.), Apple required a hardware “chip” to unlock a piece of code that would allow audio out the 30-pin connector (and new Lightning connector) to the dock. The combination of their inability to adapt to that change and some horribly stupid business decisions ultimately drove Virtual Soundman out of business. Sadly, they left the market owing many customers a substantial amount of money from pre-orders that were never fulfilled. As you consider alternatives, I encourage you to look at Cue Command… www.DeceptivelySimple.com Cue Command is the only product currently available that offers all the features of the old iCue2 with a custom built, long-range remote transmitter. Instead of the iCue’s LED display, Cue Command uses the large format of the iDevice to show either track number or song title as the primary display. Additional information is available on the site. And, we always maintain adequate stock to guarantee shipping within 24-hours of placing the order. Best Always, Team Deceptively Simple |

I would also recommend the Ultimate Control mp3 player w/remote. Very happy with mine:

I have something more modern that I use. I use Best Boy sound controller with my Android phone but the magic flea market is coming up here in Chicago and I figured if I got it all working I could sell if for a few bucks to someone who had nothing.
Just thoughts. Edd

Edd: The Soundman would work with a 1st generation NANO or older. Any iPod made after that was not guaranteed to work as Apple had changed things inside which Soundman had not been able to reverse engineer.

Generation 1 or 2 will work. Does your iCue2 say "PRO" on the front? That one is slightly different. I still have & use both a VSM iCue2 and the iCue2 SoundBox PA. They've been through thousands of shows without a problem.

Hello everyone.
I’m part of Deceptively Simple, Inc. We’re a licensed Apple accessory developer and an app developer. For a little more clarification, Apple does have programs where they encourage developers to build hardware to work with Apple iOS (iPod, iPhone, iPad) products. It’s really not a matter of reverse engineering but rather following their instructions for hardware development. Since the old Nano, the program required a hardware “chip” to allow the audio signal out the 30-pin connector (or the new Lightning connector) to the dock. Before the product can be sold, the developer has to submit two units to Apple for their testing and approval. Although it’s a very challenging process, hundreds of companies have successfully completed it and are able to use the “Made for iPod” logo. For a handful of reasons, Virtual Soundman was not able to complete this process, ultimately declared bankruptcy and left owing people a substantial amount of money in unfulfilled orders. If any of you are interested in getting rid of your old iCue2 hardware, please contact us at Sales@DeceptivelySimple.com. We are introducing a program where we’re offering a substantial discount on the new Cue Command for the old iCue2 hardware. Best always, Team Deceptively Simple www.DeceptivelySimple.com |

Still overpriced though. With options like ShowCues and the Ijet, $600 for a remote control for your music is simply way too much. Seriously, $600 to control your music? In this day and age?
There's simply no need to spend that much on controlling your music professionally. Look up the reviews in other threads, steer clear of over-priced systems that run you $600! |

Yes. The "always the low price, always" philosophy has served Wal-Mart extremely well for years. It's great for them but not for us.
From the beginning, Cue Command set out to build the best live-sound music player on the market regardless of price. At the top of the list was a reliable and secure remote transmitter. The final product has more than 16-million unique transmitter addresses with a maximum range of nearly 700-feet. There are significant differences between Cue Command and other products. For a detailed listing, check this out: http://www.deceptivelysimple.com/webpages/comparisons.html The iJet remote has received a considerable amount of criticism on this forum. For those of you looking for a purpose-built professional solution, you should check out Cue Command. Best always, Team Deceptively Simple www.DeceptivelySimple.com |

As I stated in my previous posts regarding this product it has far exceeded my expectations. I began with the iCue unit, moved up to MP3Tech, tried Show Cues and now Cue Command, which is my device of choice. iCue was great but had remote issues. MP3Tech was wonderful but the digital readout was too small. Show Cues is an incredible app but the remotes suck!!! Spend the money. You won't be disappointed. |

The most moronic move that CueCommand did was not listen to me when I suggested that their remote should be able to control other 3rd party. According to TDS it's proprietary commands. Show Cues will release similar hardware in the summer that should control 3rd party apps. Afterwards the ONLY survival tactic would be for them to drastically drop their price. It should be very exciting to see this happen.

I suggested that their hardware should control other Iphone Apps.
They did not listen. They left the floodgate open. Shortly from what we are hearing from ShowCues, they have developed a long range remote solution. It will be out during the summer. Bad business move, their only hope now is to be the low cost leader.

Then, you should come up with an idea, create a company, register it with Apple, buy tens-of-thousands of dollars of test gear, develop your product, develop an enclosure, write firmware, get it approved by the FCC, get it approved by Apple, thoroughly test it, manufacture production quantities, buy advertising and offer it for sale. Then, you get to make all the decisions. Until then, shut up! You have publically criticized our product and made several baseless accusations of us falsifying reviews and endorsements on this forum. You come across as a bitter, angry person that is more comfortable breaking people down than building them up. A founding principal of the Café is "magicians helping magicians". Exactly how are your criticisms and baseless claims doing that? Cue Command is a complete solution and the industry leader. Show Cues clearly sees this and is scrambling to develop a reliable and secure long-range remote transmitter. We have no intention of developing a product that helps to sell other applications. Doing so benefits our competition and opens a Pandora's Box of finger pointing and trouble calls. We will continue to offer enhancements through our app and I'm confident Cue Command will remain the industry leader for the foreseeable future. @TDS,
The industry leader app is currently "Show Cues", based on the number of features and the magicians celebs endorsements, #2 is OneTrack. Your company currently has the longest range remote using LINX Technologies hardware. Till the summer when Show Cues releases their long range remote which they have been working on forever. I also highly critiqued Show Cues when they were selling a $25 dollar Ijet for $50. Now that it has a magnetic switch so it can be triggered by a magnet in your ankle (ankle switch) or in your pocket by a magnetic ring. It is worth the $50. The ONLY user of your product that we know of is @Spinnato who just POSTS that he uses your product. He is the "hype man". An old school marketing technique that you think we are not able to figure out. Newer School marketing techniques would involve mailing sample products to respected people. "Magicians helping magicians" is the principal of the MagicCafe and that is what I am doing, in this case you are too blind to see that I am helping/protecting magicians hard earned money from your company. I call out people, company, products when I see snake oil, something fishy or just wrong information to make more sales. Nowadays its about company transparency. Your remote (hardware) ONLY works with your App, as you have said, "We have no intention of developing a product that helps to sell other applications". Your marketing a product to a micro niche and if your company folds, or when it folds. Your users will have to scramble to find working iphones/ipads with the correct ios (apple firmware). Apple changes many things as we saw between ios6 and ios7 where the Playlist and songs were not loading in 3rd party apps. If that happens again, your buyers will have an expensive brick since you guys might not update your app beyond a certain ios. Or maybe ALL your users are smart enough to jailbreak their idevices untethered and save their shsh blobs and downgrade. Now your comparison on your website is OFF and misleading or as your say, "several baseless accusations". This is the 2nd time I have called you out on this. http://www.deceptivelysimple.com/webpages/comparisons.html ShowCues has: custom built remote transmitter (magnetic switch) Apple approved devices (ijet is approved and shows cues is in the AppStore) Optional ankle switch available Plays iTunes playlist (ijet) Automatically provides charging power via Ijet pass thru So please update your site.

I take offense to your "hypne man" comment in regard to my posts. As I've said in previous posts regarding this product I am in no way affiliated with, nor do I even know, anyone connected with this company. All I know is that this product WORKS FOR ME! After owning and using iCue, MP3Tech and ShowCues, Cue Command has become my device of choice for reasons stated in previous posts. I'm assuming that I do more shows in a week than you do in a year so I believe that my endorsement of this product, from a working performer's stand point, is valid. As a side note might I suggest decaf! |

I type really fast. Don't like Decaf. I do make my own mocha's and espressos, though a Starbucks is walking distance. Congrats on liking Cue Command but your the only guy endorsing it in every POST shared in the FX section of the MagicCafe. Now if you actually Posted something else in the FX section and actually helped people out, things would be different. But even in the POST above you are still being the "hype man". We get it, you are a fan. FYI, I actually performed 15 shows last week. 8 shows booked this week. I don't use iCue, MP3Tech, ShowCues, or Cue Command, not enough for my needs. I use a high-end laptop and WinAmp for music playback, a Mp3Tech custom usb receiver with custom firmware and their remote (directed tech) control for triggering cues. FreeStyler DMX software to control my DMX lighting with a wireless usb dmx dongle.
