Hi All,
I've found a great presentational idea for Greg Wilson's Pointless. This routine might be presented as an experimental demonstration of ADHD. Start by saying : "This is just a demo of ADHD, in the next 30 seconds or so, you'll lose your focus on stuff five times in a row." Then proceed with the routine. Conclude by saying : "I did a lot more than you saw, I rotated the pen quite a few times more, but you noticed only a fraction of it." Let me know your comments. N.B. I've recently moved to USA from India on professional assignments. I'm staying at Randolph, NJ currently. visited Tannen's and Fantasma in NYC. Nice places to hang around, seriously !!
Best,

Hmm, I don't think mentioning ADHD is a good idea, bit too clinical and I would say a bit insulting saying to them "you only noticed a fraction of it" - an example of a magician showing how clever he is.
Would be more fun saying its a sobriety test, check out Mark Jenests video of Jiggernaut for a good example. Or you could preface the routine with a fantastic line I heard (and took note of) from Michael Vincent 'I'd like to share with you a beautiful mystery, a mystery which proves although seeing is believing, you shouldn't believe everything that you see, especially where a magician is concerned' What a line! |

I think the use of ADHD is fine. Friends, people I work with, people I run into at gigs all talk about it.
If you want to soften the blow, you could talk about the MTV Generation and the shortened attention span.

Depending on how you carry+present yourself you can do what you want to. I personally would not use it. All the Best. Raj.

I use Pointless as a moment to talk about why I prefer click-pens over those with a cap. I'm always forgetting where input the cap, which results in ink on the inside of my pocket, or trying to write with the cap on.
Anyway, that's not a full script by any means, but the general idea I tend to use as I don't particularity enjoy "sucker" presentations where the audience is mocked. |
