I did a search on this subject, but not much came up. So I thought I would ask anyway.

I am a collector of dice (RPG player) and I have hundreds (d-4s all the way up to d-100s). I would love to find some great tricks involving dice. The problem is that I have no idea where to start.

Anyone have any good resources?

Thanks.

Although I'm not positive of the exact dice you are talking about, there are some different books that have dice tricks. "Mind Reading Magic Tricks" by Bob Longe has some basic dice tricks. In the "Stars of Magic" put out by Louis Tannen a long time ago is a routine called "Malini-Bey Chink-A-Chink" which could be done with dice. It's similar to Matrix that's done with cards and coins but instead uses bare hands and dice or other small objects.
Also in the "Great Secrets of the Master Magicians" by Bruce Elliot is a good routine that uses 2 dice and the turnover move. People won't believe you're using regular dice.

Also, you could do a "dice across" routine using some of the moves as "coins across", then have a kicker ending where you pick up one of the dice and immediately change it into a much larger die.

And although this isn't sleight-of-hand there is a fortunetelling trick with dice in the book "Strange Secrets" vol. 1 which may still be available from Abbott's. Instead of using two standard dice you could probably make up your own basic fortunetelling, using info from the book, with a single die that has ten sides.I'll shut up now.

Try going to "rings, strings and things" there is where most issues regarding those items as well as dice are discussed.

A few dice trick routines (available on video or dvd) are Dr. Sacks Amazing Dice Trick, It's The Rules and The Ivory Connection for starters.
Good luck !

If you have Routined Manipulations Finale there is a routine in there by Ali Bongo, called "Deolali Dice." Deolali is pronounced "DOO-lolly." It means crazy.

This is a very clever routine with dice in which some very small dice expand to very large ones. The routine as written will require some construction on your part, and it must be performed seated, but imagine the shock when the tiny dice expand to many times their original size.

It is practically unknown in this country because it has been hiding in print for so long. I saw Brick Tilley perform it at a lecture one evening in Houston, went out and got the props necessary to build it. I don't perform seated very often, and I haven't taken the trouble to rework the ending, but when I did it several years ago, it fooled the pants off of people!

Take a look to those different things, you find at least some tricks/ideas that will please you:

- The Dr. Sack's Amazing Dice Trick is published in some places. Try the video entirely devoted to thet trick by Martin Lewis. This trick is a must with the dice.

- Marlo's "shoot the works" book. (Dice across, and s.o.)

- Steve Draun's "Draun on Dice" with some of the Marlo's stuff in video + a set of dice for a "jumbo" ending.

- "Scarne on dice" (out of print since...) is giving full of details on crooked games. There is a part devoted to "moves" : switches, controlled tosses... very interesting.

- You can have very magical effects with dice stacking (on the dice changing color, loading jumbo, or micro dice).

Jonathan.

Dice are not really common items to most and can be perceived as being "trick", or fake so one needs to be careful when presenting these types of tricks. That's why I have steered clear of dice even after spending hours and hours practicing stacking dice. I would only keep this kind of skill for a cheating expose but keep it away from traditional magic tricks.

I love doing effects with dice and have come up with a few ideas and some what I think are some great twists on other ideas.

I do Dr Sachs dice routine and if anyone else does then I end it with the the ending that Vernon created from the Vernon book of magic and both the Sachs affect and the Vernon finish can be found on Daryl's Fooler Doolers tapes.

I have an effect that was created from an idea I got from Jerry Sadowits I seen on Australian TV where he had a card selected and returned and then takes a die and slams it into the deck to reveal the the selected card from the pack with squashed die on the back, but with my version you take the selected card and flick it to have the squashed pieces jump off the back and reform onto the table as the original die.

The other thing I do is a chop cup routine with a die and a gaffed dice cup as the 2 items go together much better than a standard chop cup and a ball, I then finish with 2 jumbo dice and then a super jumbo ala Paul Gertner steel cups and balls where the dice do not fit into the dice cup!

Hi all,

Two other dice routines that have not been mentioned are:

Jack Avis' Poker Pot
Bauer/Miller/Green Miller's Dice

PP was available from Ken Brooke

I don't know what you mean when you say that "dice are not common to most." Most households have a Monopoly set and/or a set of Parcheesi, Chutes and Ladders, Backgammon or things like that. You can get them in most drug stores.

The cheapest magic trick I have seen is the Incredible Shrinking Die. Switches and conversions would be the most logical type of magic with dice. Pretty much coin magic with dice. There is also dice stacking. No idea what that is.

I know this may go without saying, but have you seen
http://www.bitsandpieces.com/search.asp?......=catshop

It's Marvin's Magic dice set. Basically, it has all the standard tricks in one case.

Bye for now

Harold

I know this may go without saying, but got to http://www.bitsandpieces.com and search for dice magic. They have an executive set of dice tricks. It's a nice all in one collection.

Astinus, I, too, collect dice (dig my screen name). Get your hands on some loaded casino dice and use them along with a deck to force a certain card down in the deck. Also, if you can find some of those tiny, little mini dice, it's fun to vanish a full size die and then use the TT to "smash" it into tiny dice. Very cartoony!
