I think I'm missing something regarding this switch (which I would love to buy ... but not yet).

I've watched the video several times now & I don't get it.
Then David Devlin posts a review stating that it is great!

I'm missing something or not understanding something.
I'm only seeing a red-backed folded card removed from a transparent box & then the card is unfolded to show a blue-backed card.

What am I not getting???
Someone please explain as I am wanting to get this.

Think of David Regal's Clarity Box without a gimmick and everything is examinable after. Signed cards, predicted cards etc. etc. It's a very interesting and cool technique. This can also be applied billets Smile

Not sure what else there is to say haha.

This is wonderful. I have already put it to good use with two new routines. It is helpful if you know the Mercury Fold, but it is not totally necessary. I think that the price tag is a bit too low.

How about this?
After I started this post, I called my wife to the computer & had her watch the video.

After she watched it one time, she explained the 'secret move' to me!!!
Well, sort of. She pointed out some things to me which I then elaborated on as I now explained the move to her.

30-plus years of doing magic & this flew right by me!

I'm not degrading this in anyway - I, too, think it's ingenious & now understand what David was so excited about.
It's a great move!

I posted because I was confused by the video. After the switch, he should have shown BOTH sides of the card. As it is, it looks like a folded 2-back card was simply opened.
As I now said, I, too, think it's a pretty cool move.

It's certainly a very odd (poor) demo which I agree does just look like he is unfolding a double-back card.

I've watched that video over a dozen times, and it does appear to be a double-backed card. Even the reflection of the card seen in the polished table looks like the back previously shown.

Does anyone know of a video that shows this switch more clearly, and evidently?

Looks that way to me too, it's either a very clean switch (which looks excellent) or it's just a video of someone dumping and unfolding the said card mentioned above. I'm thinking it's got to be the first though otherwise it's not a demo of anything other than unfolding a card.

Having said that his previous work has been remarkably good.

May have to pick this up to satisfy my curiosity. Anyone else have this?

I have seen the demo recently, the handling and explanation before. I can assure you that it does look really that clean. It is very good indeed. Jan

@richburb I do not think that a better video could be made. That is exactly what the switch looks like, and NO it is not a double-backed card. The card(s) are ungimmicked as is the container. In fact, I just use a small mason canning jar.

I took the plunge and purchased this. Well it's not a very deep plunge as it's not that expensive.

1. Yes the demo could have been better, but only in setting you up so you know what is happening. At first, I thought it was or could be just a double backed card, too. I suspect the demo was made show the switch using 2 different backed cards to make it "clearer". As said above, both sides should have been shown. However, the mechanics of what is happening are all there.

2. The effect is explained in a 1:27 min video. There is an over the shoulder video of what you see in the demo with subtitle annotations across the bottom to point out some of the actions. The teaching is adequate but there could have been more information provided on the nuances that make it work. But, then it's only $6.50 and you will know how to do it and you can figure out the nuances pretty quickly on your own.

3. The method is obvious...once you know it. One of those why didn't I think of it. But, it turns out to be an excellent switch of 2 cards in front of the spectator. It definitely works. The more you do it, the more you like it. The main consideration is that you do need to watch your angles just a little more than with the traditional shuttle move.

4. This can be used as an alternative to the method for the revelation of just about any folded card that has been in plain sight all along. You can use this with the clarity box, any of the effects where you dump a card out of a box and even Shin Lim's Switch with a folded card on the table. I still like Paperclipped the best. This may be a close second.

I highly recommend this to anyone that does this type of effect. Why weren't we doing this all along?

It's cute... but it's not going to replace the paperclip switch for me... or honestly, a straight up billet switch.

Alexander showed this to me a short while ago and I think it's brilliant. The video shows a card being tipped out and opened. The fact that the card that is tipped out is not the card that is opened. There is a switch that takes place. Not gimmicks, no set up and the card can be handed out straight away. If you think the video demo is faked, it shows how good it is Smile

Personally, I would have the card in the box be a different back colour to the ones I am using to have chosen. This disguises the fact that it will be the same card.

I bought this and, yes, the switch is exactly as shown on the video, although it would be clearer if the face of the card was shown at the end.

For those who found the switch confusing, here is a link to me performing it which I hope makes it clearer.

I love this move and have used it for an add-a-number routine and I am currently working on a signed note in next of boxes.

ThIs is one of the best moves to come to prominence for ages.

Bought it a while ago. It works fine if you watch your angles when surrounded . Nice switch .

You end dirty.Attention would be given to where you are dirty. The switch has several good moves . But ,again, the card is where the audience woud think it is.It should be ditched at the reveal bit in the explaination it is not.I cannot even think of a ditch during the reveal that would not be obvious.

The audience is not aware of a switch. The card is only where the magician knows it is, not where the audience thinks it is. Don't ditch during the reveal. Wait until the off beat.

I use it and it works great.
