"The card is only where the magician knows it is, not where the audience thinks it is."
So if the audtence thinks it is in his hand ,it isn't.I do mot understand your statement.

Hi Glenn,

That was badly phrased Smile

What I meant was that y as the magician know there is an extra card in your hand but the audience don't. If you do the switch well, there is no reason for them to suspect one. It is the same as using a thumb tip. The audience should not be aware of it even though you know full well it's there and staring at you in the face.

Sapan, if you go to 'Latest & Greatest' you will find a thread about 'Perfect Score'. This will help you in folding a card perfectly every time.

Hey everyone, I am wondering if it would be possible to perform this switch using a drinking glass rather than a clear box? I know the box is ungimmicked, but in the ad it says that you do it with a "crystal box," so I am just wondering if you HAVE to use a box or if you can just grab any glass and perform it at a dinner table, for example. Thanks in advance.

Yes you can use a glass. Not just any one though. A wineglass won't work but a pint glass will.

I'm a fan of Jon and his work but I would say his reply when asked if the switch requires sleight of hand, "no it doesn't" is categorically untrue.
In fact I'd say it's ONLY sleight of hand in the sense that it uses the hands to hide some realities and simulate others.

I'm not saying it's knuckle-busting or anything... but it is absolutely sleight of hand.

Hi dmoses (and thanks),

Thinking about it more after what you wrote, technically it does use sleight of hand. What I would add is that it is not very difficult or complicated.

My bad!

Hate to say this but there was a point in Jon's video of the switch that might have been a bit misleading.

Yes, you can do it with a glass, but (for me) that works less fluid.
In a glass that is round (wineglass) the paper touches not the whole surface and glides not as good.
With a box I can control better HOW the paper glides out. So to take ANY glass impromptu without trying it first, I find a bit risky.
That is at least my experience.

I highly recommend this to anyone that does this type of effect. Why weren't we doing this all along?
Jim

Because it is cheap. And something that is cheap cannot be good. Isn't it? Smile
I give it 9/10.

P.S.: I would recommend highly to use "Perfect score" from Jon Allan for this method. If you have it, you will understand why.
