I'm thinking about adding more music to my show. I'm thinking of a fun musical kick at the conclusion of each key routine to act as a fun transition. I would like this, but my question is about the practicality of achieving this in a one man show. At the magical moment, I would hate to be distracted with a remote. I'm not sure I could rely on a quickly trained volunteer to run sound and hit cues with that much detail. I'm mostly thinking about stage performances. What solutions have y'all found? Or have you discovered that the cost and difficulty isn't worth the benefit?

I have been using wirelessly controlled music systems for years and find that I'm able to use one pretty seamlessly. I, currently, use an iPod with the OneTrack app and an iJet NAV remote. The remote is in my pocket and I push the buttons through my pants. I glued plastic jewels to the buttons to make them easier to press.

I wear my remote on the inside of my bicep. I have cut the arm off a t-shirt and wear it on my right bicep under my shirt. The remote goes inside the t-shirt sleeve, button side out. That way I can access the buttons through the layers of my clothes. There are all manner of moves that allow me to press the buttons but my favourite is right hand on chin, left hand on right bicep and adopt a very thoughtful look.
Using the same system you could have the remote anywhere about your person without going near your pockets.

Tony,
Cue Command has two different transmitters. From the outside, they look identical but one does have a solid-state magnetic receiver. Typically, this is worn around the ankle but it could be located anywhere on your person, prop, etc. The remote is activated when the magnet comes within approximately 1-inch of the unit. Therefore, it will not activate when walking but will activate when one's feet are brought together. All Cue Command transmitters feature large, metal domed buttons. They provide a great tactile feel (even through a pant pocket) and a "click" feeling when they are pressed. In all cases, they offer a superior level of security and reliability as compared to other products. Thanks for the input guys. Ease of access is certainly part of the issue. That solves about 80% of my concerns. I'll experiment with that. Thanks.

Tony,
What you are proposing is a fabulous way to add impact to your act. I congratulate you, because far too many magicians ignore this aspect of performing (or don't take the time to work on these kinds of presentational highlights). For many of my routines, I have an appropriate background music track, followed by a "musical magical moment" which enhances the climax of the trick. My music source is the Ultimate Control. So it's easy to switch from the first track to the second when the time is right. Either by doing it manually (which I disguise by reaching for a prop), or secretly, with an ankle or toe switch. What about using Sounds Amazing controlled with a toe switch, this would work for smaller venues.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.
