I perform Iceman cometh on a regular basis .It takes some setting up and I have several made blocks all the time in my fridge ,earlier someone mentioned its not a do able effect in the real world ,in a way its not but if you want to be a cut above the rest the time taken is worth it as it is a reputation maker ,
if you put the gimmicked cards in a freezer container with ice blocks it stays frozen for ages when travelling to venues (a lot of hassle but worth it ) I always patter about would you like to see the coolest thing ever etc and then you are off , SUPERB piece of magic |

I've come with another way, using a signed card, but haven't tried it yet. Freeze two sepreate halves, in some sort of flat rectangular miniature tray. Wet your left thumb, palm card in right, load card between to ice blocks, and wet the sides. Ice fresh out of the freezer sticks together and melds together if you moisten them a little. Probably would have to keep it surrounded in dry ice.

The routine you are looking for is described in Apocalypse, Vol.1 (of the 4 book series), page 325, and is called "Frozen Deckery". The inventor is....... Michael Ammar.

I've done a folded card in Ice a while ago.
Who to attribute I don't know, but I didn't think it was something I would do all the time. I had it timed and everything with the waiter while I was doing the effect bring the gentlemen a new glass of soda and then I revieled it. After a while so he kinda forgot that it was a new coke.

You can make an ice gimmick that will accept a signed card although it does require a partner to do some of the work.
It can be loaded and set in about 2 minutes flat. To make a mould of the card case then unpick a case and lay it flat. Draw around it noting the fold points. Cut it out and use the template to make a case out of plastic.

The only way I could see that happening is at a diffrent occasion. I did one at a party before where a few weeks before that I had the same guy over at a house and had him sign a card for the ACR any way it turned out that he was going to the same party, so I looked in my old cards untill I found his card WITH his signature. Then I froze it and that night I did it to him. Told him to go to the fridge and he found his signed card there.

Regarding the problem of having the ice melt; you could place a small drink cooler (one made for only three or four cans) on the table when you start your act, having placed the frozen card as well as some dry ice in the cooler beforehand.
Ignore the cooler until the end of your act when you finally open it. Fog from the cooler pours over it's side as you take out the frozen deck. Hand it and ice pick to spectator. Amazing no one has posted any "cold deck" jokes... --William PS: Paisa, the trick where you told the spectator to get his *signed* card out of a block of ice in the refrigerator sounds incredible; how did he respond? |

Interesting topic.
Sorry if this is a dumb question... if a card is (unfolded) in a block of ice, and the block of ice fits inside a card box, wouldn't that mean the card is not really "inside" the block of ice at all? It would be more like two blocks of ice with a card sandwiched between them. So when people have done this sort of effect, is the card usually folded? |

Great question! I'd imagine if the ice block is inside a deck box, it couldn't fully hold a card without the box being oversized or the card being undersized (small or folded).
For larger blocks, I'm curious about method of manufacture and can see the two-sided mold as viable as well as maybe a modern silicon/latex mold or even an insert to be placed from the top down into any mold you wanted. A curiosity for sure though |

If you search “signed card in block of ice” here, you’ll probably come across the marketed version that was released a few years back. I can’t remember who released it.

Appreciate it merlin, been looking through past threads and there are a couple interesting thoughts that I'm happy to see people go through but I haven't seen a thread yet with a *stunner* of an idea. I've seen what looks like a smaller block made to be carried in a cloth bag for a card to block that looks like it's not far from a LePaul wallet (haven't found manufacturer yet) and I saved a few large disposable plastic cups and have been messing with cutting/heating/freezing with an item inside. If I find something good and folks are interested, happy to go through it here or PM depending on exposure concerns, and if folks have ideas to help witht he process and don't want to blast it out, I'm good with PMs too.
