Will this get as much coverage as Bundy? Let's see. Tommy, call out the bookmakers, I'm betting no.

The word on the street is the odds of the people owning any land in the USA are shortening with the feds owning about 40% and grabing more everyday.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Don't know about Canada, but there was plenty of coverage even before the slavery stuff.

Coverage of fracking or of Bundy? You may have noticed that the clip is from 2011, so fracking concerns have been mainstream media news in Canada at least since then.
It's been going on at least since the 1950s; it's rather remarkable that it took this long for anyone to publicly suspect that fracturing underground formations might have wide-ranging consequences.

John, while it's absolutely true that people, especially progressives, have been talking about fracking for a while now, and there's a lot of grassroots activity opposing it, what I was pointing out is that the particular story I referenced in the OP has not gotten even 1% of the airplay that Bundy did--even before the racist remarks. The only original reporting I've seen is from the LA Times and Newsmax. Even though there are many similar themes--Texas ranchers upset about violations of their property, and large sums of money involved, and in the case of the OP a major lawsuit won, there has been considerably less coverage in the mainstream media. As I indicated, I think there is a very obvious reason why.

Even if (some of) the 'themes' were the same, the Bundy story also had a huge anti-government slant, involved armed 'vigilantes' and / or 'freedom fighters', police armed with sniper rifles, livestock being killed, police dogs charging people, video of Bundy's son being tasered by police, etc. The fracking story involved a quiet couple and a courtroom. Seriously, which story is going to attract the bulk of the reporting and tv cameras? (BTW Bundy's story is 20 years old, courts have been involved since 1998 ... yet it received very little coverage until recently.) Of course, having said that, anti-fracking stories of all sorts (e.g. fracking tied to earthquakes, and radioactive oil dumping) have received many times the news coverage that Bundy has.

The sheer volume of fracking wells will statstically lead to more failed casings, causing groundwater contamination. Even the pro oil people in North Texas are getting leary of the fracking as all of a sudden there are more and more earthquakes where there were none before. It just strains credibility that these earth quakes and high hydrocarbon levels in ground water are "just natural occurrences". |

America and Canada were never meant to last forever. That's why the whole place is jerry rigged, with temporary building, waiting to pulled in controlled demolitions. They are going to be frackin America and Canada left right and centre in this 21 century of change. Everyone knows that. So why would they bother with putting it in the news when there is nothing new about it?

Top 10 Truly Bizarre Taxes: The card tax was a great example of people being taxed for something which is popular and pleasurable. At the time of the institution of the tax, playing cards were extremely popular after dinner (no doubt due to the lack of televisions and playstations) so the King saw an opportunity to fleece his people. The tax, along with the fancy design and manufacturer’s logo commonly displayed on the Ace of Spades began under the reign of James I of England (16th-17th century), who passed a law requiring an insignia on that card as proof of payment of a tax on local manufactures of cards. Until August 4, 1960, decks of playing cards printed and sold in the United Kingdom were liable for taxable duty, and the Ace of Spades carried an indication of the name of the printer and the fact that taxation had been paid on the cards." Speaking of tax, it seems, that is were the money in this frackin game. From what I can make of it, they are getting grants and that is were the money is. Get a grant wreck the place and move on to the next place and get a grant and so on and the boys get grants to clean it up. Just another false shuffle in the house of cards.
