Hi
Has anyone in the Café had Lasik eye surgery? My wife just had it done Friday and is still a little blurry. I guess I was just looking for some experienced reassurance that the blurriness will likely subside.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I don't want to sound negative...but my uncle had it done a few years back and he still needs glasses.

Hopefully everything will work out. If she got it done Friday then it should clear up soon. Maybe call the doctor tomorrow and ask.

I had it done in 99 and it lasted until about 2002. I now need glasses because I have a weird eye structure that keeps developing protein over the lenses. I did have other friends do it after they saw me throw away my glasses and they still have perfect vision.

I recommend it even though it didn't work for me, but it was fantastic while it lasted.

Yeah - just a touch negative there, Siesmic. Not what I was shooting for, but I appreciate the honesty. She is calling the Doc tomorrow. There is always a possibility of the need for glasses afterward depending on how bad the patients vision was originally. The process she had is not the one they were doing the last few years - its a new surgery they do now in Canada that is a little more detailed than the old process.

Thanks - I'll keep the Café posted with progress. Please keep her in your prayers if you can.

Thanks Greg - she was told she will likely need reading glasses as she gets older. I just want her vision to clear up. She's getting a little nervous about it. I feel bad for her.

As it should happen, there is an ophthalmologist who belongs to the ring here. Since my glasses resemble coke bottles (I literally cannot see past the end of the nose on my face without them), he and I had a discussion on all the eye surgeries out there. His best advice was to not consider a surgery until you see the eye doctors getting the same surgery. He said the laser surgery was better than the first surgeries out there, but what happens is that the surgery will set your vision at a fixed distance. It will not allow for the changes in vision as one gets older. He also said that very rarely does vision become 20-20.

My ophthalmologist had told me that as bad as my vision is, it would be virtually impossible to get my vision to 20-20. I told her that at this point, I'd settle for being able to see one foot in front of me without the need for glasses. The eye doctor/magician understood my feelings when I told him what my eye doctor told me, and told me that if I really wanted to consider the surgery and to talk further with him....in the capacity of him being a doctor and not just gabbing about stuff in the magic store...he would be glad to talk with me about the advantages and disadvantages.

Although, right now, the surgery is out of the question since insurance considers it cosmetic and I can't afford it at this time.

The only stupid question is the one not asked.
