I would read a lot of the old books on the old timers staging their illusions...guys like Virgil, Blackstone, Gwyene. They learned to get a lot out of a little.
Look at costuming, staging, lighting and music before buying an illusion. Virgil made some really simple things look great with on stage decorations that had absolutely nothing to do with the effect. Packing is so important..If you can afford the luxury of a large trunk and no weight restrictions, it is great to open a case and roll out the illusion ready to go. Otherwise, you must figure in the time needed to construct and repack the illlusion. Decide what type of market you are going to work for. Are you going to try to sell this as a fund raiser to work in high school stages? Or maybe as an act for outdoor festivals on flat bed trailers (Yes, I've worked them). Don't be discouraged. Lance Burton did his dove act for years while slowly building little bits and pieces of his big show. But I agree about working in Las Vegas...it is a very tough nut to crack. Read Ken Griffin's old book..Illusion Show Know How. I think it is still available from Abbott's. It is still the best work on how to routine, troupe and pack a show out there. Do not forget the little stuff. You will need some of it to fill in while illusions are set and to prevent a hernia from moving in all the illusions. And quite often, the smaller pieces are the most remembered.
