This could be use FANTASTICALLY with the old Annemann blindfold with gauze and tape and cotton over the eyes. In the original, a black bag goes over it all at the end, but I think you could use the foil instead of the bag and make it that much more effective.

What you're describing has nothing to do with Annemann as he didn't use such a blindfold, preferring instead to use a simple rolled handkerchief. In the Jinx (and in Practical Mental Effects) you'll find Henry Fetch's "In the Mind," which uses such a blindfold as you've described, but it is entirely ungimmicked and genuine as sight is not required for the effect.

The one I'm thinking of allows cotton on the eyes and then wrapped with gauze and then with one simple move as you put on the bag, you get perfect forward vision. I'm fairly certain it was credited to Annemann, but I trust your wisdom! |

No clue. I tried whatever I had in my pantry and it worked great. I imagine given the secret it would work with any. Ryan |

I have a very generic brand and it worked.

I tried it with Reynolds and my local store brand - both worked fine. I'm pretty confident it works with any type/brand.

I once tried the blindfold trick in Tarbell's with success, but wouldn't use it in a show. However, I will use this in a show.

The question I have now that I have downloaded the trick is how can I maximize the audience impact of this? Should I have audience members hold up fingers and I tell them how many fingers they are holding up? The possibilities are endless; however, it's not good to do all of the possibilities, as that would get boring.
Any recommendations? |

George1953,
Sorry to hear that you did not like Patricks style on his DVD's. I would also admit that it is an aquired taste and not for everyone but then again nobody's performing style ever is. I believe that as English is not Patricks first language some of his performance gets lost in translation. I would urge you to watch the DVDs in their entirety though, if you don't you are truly missing out on an incredibly creative mind and incredible workable material! It is so rare in this industry (IMHO) to get a collection of work from one DVD (or DVD set) where most of the effects are practical and strong for real world use and on this (like his style or not) Patrick delivers without question. Blindfoil is a great example I this. I was thrilled to share my ideas on the aluminum foil blindfold and believe people get the benefit of seeing this from both Patricks perspective and my perspective which makes for a reputation maker and a blindfold that is so organic in both it's construction and use. Quite a few of the tips on preparation and practicality make this a winner for both strolling and stage that you WILL use! These extra tips are from my performing repertoire and ones that I use to great effect. Cheers, MJ |

This is too bad. I can see that this is taking a poor turn. This should be a great tool in the arsenal of a mentalist. By the posts here you can see this is quickly being reduced to a magician's trick. This is too bad. Now even kids performers are inviting this. This is what happens when something is offered so inexpensively or non-exclusively. ...too bad.
The difference is when a mentalist does this it's seen as impossible. When it's included as part of a magic set, especially with kids magic, it can't help being seen as a trick. It may be a reputation maker in a mentalists set, but not in a magic set. |

Mindpro,
What do you mean "reduced to a magician's trick"? It can be presented as a fun magician's trick even for kids and it can be presented as the "real thing" by a mentalist. There's room for all types of presentations with Blindfoil. |

Too powerful if you ask me. The price is much too low. Secrets like these should stay secrets.
