Sorry, I know this is likely a standard routine problem, but my search hasn't turned up an answer.
I have two coin routines which I want to chain together. One is a short 3 coins across with the last coin going to the spectator's hand. The second is a 3 lumps routine with coins jumping to a coffee cup. Which order are these effects usually performed? Originally I did coins across first and then introduced the coffee cup to naturally add interest. ("Now you will hear the coins as well as see them.") My problem is that the coin travelling to the spectator's hand is getting bigger reactions. Now I'm considering having the first spectator help me a second time by holding the cup, possibly with their hand over it or something. My other option would be to do 3 lumps first and reframe coins across as more difficult. ("Maybe you think this is a trick coffee cup. Now I'll do it with my bare hands.") Thoughts? Thanks! -Andrew

I think maybe ending with the one that gets bigger reactions would be the way to go. I don't think the coins across needs reframing as more difficult if it's getting bigger reactions as is. Best wishes.

Yea the Last Jumping in to the spectator's hand. Is hard to beat!
Could you just the 3 Th. coin into your Hand and then in The coins to glass Have The 3 TH. Coin go in to the spectator's hand ? |

I think that doing two tricks with the coins traveling from one place to another is too repetitive. I would chose one of them only. If the coin in the spectator's hand gets the better reaction for you, do only that, and save the coins to cup for another day. However, that doesn't mean you can't do a series of tricks. I have different sequences tht I use. First, you can make the coins appear. Then, make them go across. If you want, finish by making them vanish. Another sequence that I do is my non gimmicked CSB, followed by making the three different coins go across. I sometimes finish by making them all go across at once, or making them vanish to reappear back in the purse that they came out of. You can check out my own tricks on the NYCMS dvd series, or use routines of your own that fit your own style and personality.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone! Michael, very good point, I'll consider the repetitiveness of the routine. It would be simple enough to substitute in appearance/vanish sequences, or any other sequence like the color changing bit that you mentioned. I should mention for anyone reading this post the quality of the NYCMS series, as well as Michael's bits in Apocalypse. For that matter, I think I've read a David Neighbors trick or two in Apocalypse...? Sorry, I don't have a page number. In any case, thanks pros!
I'm considering other bits with the cup, too, including a coin under cup gag and vanishing the coins by tossing them in the cup. -Andrew

Question, how do you introduce the coins in the first place? Do you make them appear 'magically'?

Why not take a little from each? First coin travels to glass. To make things "more challenging" for the second coin, eliminate the glass and cause it to travel at the fingertips. Finally, and most challenging of all, the last coin travels to their hand. You get a little taste of everything.

Some good responses here on this.
I really found out that "less is more," in most cases, especially when it comes to doing one coin trick after the other, unless there is a logical flow or intention to it all. As Doc mentions, you can save the other coin trick for another day, or perhaps do a little series such as Vernon suggests. Or, you can simply go another way and after the coin trick, do a card and or closeup effect, and then finish with that other coin trick.
Breaking up the magic with other effects helps to take any monotony out of the moments, and oftentimes sends the specs down a whole different path as to amazement, s sorta built in respite, if you will. Then you can finish up with that coin trick you like and the overall experience might remain more magical while seeming none the heavier.

I don't think I would Carry a glass with me just for one coin! I would go the other Way! Say do a 3 coin production dropping then Into the glass! Them say Do a 3 coins trou the table into the glass! Then say " You could not see what I was doing under the table! So I will do it on top of the table for you!" And then do the 3 TH. coin into the Sp. Hand!

That's an excellent sequence of effects suggested by David, perhaps adding a disappearance of the coins at the end.

Yea That would top it off nicely! And you have one of those full circle Routine sets! Where you start with nothing And you end with nothing!

+1 on David's idea, really great. Thanks! I started work briefly on a stand up coins through table routine yesterday. Right now I'm working on a bit at the end to remove the coins invisibly from the cup. The idea is they travel from the cup to the other hand, then suddenly vanish... Hopefully an obvious applause cue.

Good stuff here....
Also it sounds as if you are already listening to your audiences. We can learn much from them. Though it's not needed, perhaps a bunch of loose tea and a tea strainer as a kicker..for those of your fans that don't drink coffee.
