Penn & Teller's Magic and Mystery Tour
The show focuses on street magic, Did you know there is a magician's union in India?

Stay tuned for another episode... Smile

Not sure if I somehow failed in posting a comment yesterday or if it was removed for some reason, but here it is again:

Many people hate this routine (and these two fellows) for what they perceive as exposure. I disagree. I see this as outstanding entertainment.

While there are certainly elements of the trick exposed here, I would argue that almost none of them will be remembered beyond, "They put the balls back into the cups when we weren't looking," which ANY audience member knows whenever they watch the Cups & Balls--unless they believe it is real magic. NO ONE in that audience is going to recall when or how the loads were made, and despite the fact that Penn SAYS they are going to tell how it is done, he mostly does not. They certainly don't expose as much as, say, the most popular Silk to Egg routines.

I think it's beautiful, and it does not stop me from doing the (traditional) Cups & Balls even a little bit.

Their guide. Lee Siegel also wrote a very good book about the magic of India. It is a rather dry book in some ways, but very enlightening about the life of a magician in India.

Worth a visit to the library. Really.

Thanks from me, too, Devious. I love to see magic from other cultures. In the video one part I enjoyed was seeing the way the edge line was used [flour?] and how the crowd was moved back!
The presentation makes the magic.

They were very very cold during the filming of this
and they were followed by Chinese Police everywhere.

Their tour shuttle bus was involved in an accident
during the filming of the India Episode. That's why
they jumped on the train as you can see, but they don't
make mention of the accident, I don't believe.

Penn was pretty banged up and the shuttle bus was totalled,
but he didn't take a day off from filming.

Teller was so scared of the food and the dirty water that he
flew in cases of tuna fish cans and bottled water everywhere
they went. Neither of them ate anything from China, India, nor
Egypt. The director who hails from Canada paid for the shipping.

There was a bullet catch by a magician in India that failed because
the rifle misfired multiple times, so it was deleted from the show.
I saw the footage and it was very painful to watch as both Penn n
Teller knew what the gimmick was unbeknownst to the magician.

I have one more episode coming up...We are headed to Egypt next.
I'm glad that some folks find them enjoyable.

While I'm respectful of P&Ts abilities as magicians, I have to say they get not dime one from me.

Did I kill a thread? Sorry.

Actually I think I saw those episodes. I remember they made a joke after their translator told them the kanji on the restaurant read; "Tasty Savory Dog" the next shot was them opening cans of "Chung King" flown in for them.

Which is fine as they get more than enough of my money as it's hard for me to pass up their show when it comes through town or I'm in Vegas.

Oh yeah, I'm aware P&T aren't sitting up nights worrying about ME not seeing them. And I'm not the sort who claims that we ALL have to "boycott" them. But I wouldn't feel comfortable at their show or promoting them.

I know how you feel. I was once gifted with complimentary tickets to one of Andre Kole's performances. I probably was as uncomfortable sitting in that audience as you'd be watching P&T perform.

Take some time to enjoy Teller's cigarette manipulation
whilst a running narrative and a heavy bass guitar plays on.
