I am trying to come up with an entertaining presentation for Winged Silver. My thoughts so far are talking about the magical powers of silver.(ie silver bullet, silver amulets, etc.)and possibly combining that with a brief talk about the 1964 Kennedy halves.I live in Dallas and people here are fascinated by JFK. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes I will (friction)toss the coins into one hand and talk about how they will now go back in time one by one..

Kennedy/Berlin Wall - Kennedy helping to get people across the wall to freedom?

How pickpockets steal your money from right under your nose?

How magicians keep from being mugged/pickpocketed, by moving their money from hand to hand so the muggers can't find it?
(There is a, possibly apocryphal, story about Copperfield being mugged and keeping all his valuables safe by moving them from pocket to pocket as the mugger was searching him.)

Great idea that will take the effect back the other way so to speak.

Three very great ideas.I especially like the How magicians keep from getting pickpocketed route.
By the way I own 2 of your DVDs...Modern Coin Magic and Encyclopedia of Sponge Ball Magic. They are both great and I recommend them to people all the time.I also read your blog on a consistent basis.
I think Modern Coin Magic is a great companion to Bobo's book.Any magician with New Modern Coin Magic should buy your DVD....which is worth the price just for the bonus material alone.

Thank You both
Frank

There are a lot of possibilities. However, just my opinion, but I wouldnt get caught up in history, etc. don't let the patter weigh down the trick. Let the patter SUPPORT the trick. The introduction should be brief and your words support and give meaning to your movements. I have several coins across routines with different premises. In one. I talk about having jumping coins like jumping beans. In another my coins are an italian acrobatic team. In another that I call the impossible four coin trick is that the first time they will be surprised. The second time, intrigued. The third time, amazed, but the fourth time it will be impossible. Another routine shows the difference between long term and short term memory. Yet another is like a play by play (the coin starts here, but ends up HERE). Classic Roth line is that the coin has Kennedy on one side, an eagle on the other, and that means the coins can fly. If you talk too much the trick becomes secondary and not as exciting. Hope that helps.

With my coins across, I actually make it out that I'm teaching them a trick. I do the classic thumb wiggle and show them that it's the secret move (with a little wink of course). The first three phases are them learning the move, so that on the 4th phase, they can do it themselves to their hand. Sometimes the patter doesn't need to be a plot as such, but a way of engaging the audience. Nothing engages them more than making them the centre of attention Smile

Thank You Mr. Neighbors, David and Dr. Rubinstein
David,I agree with you about making the audience the center of attention.
Dr Rubinstein,I think you are right about making your words support your movements. I have seen a short video of your Italian Acrobatic Coins.Very nice.My next purchase is going to be your Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights.I am going to buy the books and DVDs.I like to read then watch.I think the NY Coin Magic Seminar series may be next.
Mr.Neighbors, I have been looking into your material also but haven't made a choice yet.

Frank

PS I am already doing David Roth's Winged Silver routine and I didn't want to use his patter too but the Wings and flight premise has a strong draw.

Hey Dallas Frank! Always happy to talk to another Frank . Anyhoo I do wing silver with quarters so I just try
To have one at play and one palmed then try to borrow the rest. And honestly
I've never really made up a patter per se I almost make it like a stunt theme and the quarters are performing these impossible feets. And then I do the last phase in the specs hands. Gets a good reaction anyway.

The Best patter to this trick that I saw it, is by Luis Piedrahita from spain, he speak About how the magician do the secret moves when the spectator blinks! I so funny, if you want you can find a video in Youtube.
