I've recently purchased David Stone's Misdirection Deck. I love the trick, and thought it would be a great way to open a strolling set, because the magic happens almost instantly. I am however not getting great responses, or even any response. I have put it down to two possibilities:
Firstly, the audience don't handle cards enough to realise they are in the box to begin with (even though I mention the box, and clearly open it in front of them) Secondly, perhaps it just happens all too quickly, and they just aren't zoned in yet. Of course I do my best not to rush it, and make sure they are paying attention before the vanish, but it's still a strong possibility. The is also the third option that the layman here in Australia doesn't find it impressive, but I greatly d. oubt it. So for those out there using the Misdirection Deck, which effect to you find works best? Do you open with it? What things have you learned about timing the effect. I'm kind of at a loss. Thanks, Michel |

This effect happens really fast and as you said.... Just a suggestion but maybe they're not paying enough attention when you first walk up to use this as an opener. This is a move that you would definately have to use at the beginning of a card routine, unless you figure out a way to do it in reverse at the end.... You could try to open with something else other than a card trick and watch their reaction and when you see that you have their complete attention and they are definately watching your every move and burning your hands up then casually bring out the cards an go with this effect.

I had the same problem with that trick when I stayed my set with it.
I realized if I do something else first (I do a short coin routine first, because money always sends to get people's attention.) And the audience is already hooked and focused, that trick works just great. |

I recently saw a David Stone lecture in the Quad-Cities and I purchased the misdirection deck. Just started to work with it and realized I have no directions of any kind.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a nice day, Walking Bob in Iowa |
