I work over night at a fitness club manning the desk. I get to do tricks for people as they come in when we have a moment. It works out well, I've gotten most all of my gigs this way.
I got to share with a nice lady, Laila, a couple of weeks ago. She is a poet and writer and wrote this and posted it to my Facebook. I was wondering where the unknown likes were coming from for my fledgling Illusionist page and it turns out it's her friends liking me. Anyway... here it is. Pretty cool: Laila HalabyTheodore the Illusionist 2 hrs · tales from Tucson streets by Laila Halaby you need to socialize more my older son tells me as I drop him off at work I head toward the pool I want to love swimming but it hasn’t happened yet I run my card at the desk the man who works there is solid, bald wears glasses he says good morning and this has been the extent of our conversations ever which is fine since our interactions take place before seven in the morning he’s usually leaving when I’m done swimming meaning he’s there all night with my son’s words in my head (though this might not be exactly what he had in mind) I ask what time do you start? ten PM he says long night what do you do the whole time? I expect him to say that he reads military history maybe accounting or perhaps he studies for an engineering class he’s taking magic I did not see that coming I’m a magician this is a perfect job for me because I can practice my tricks while I keep the crazies out do you like magic? I tell him I don’t feel one way or another about magic though I did see Penn and Teller on Broadway and it freaked me out but I don’t like plays either a lot of people have never seen magic close up do you want to see a trick? I come back to the desk he lays out his magic pad produces a silver cup check it out inspect it I hold it turn it over check for false bottoms it’s solid watch! during the next few minutes he sends tiny balls through the cup makes them disappear transforms them into a tiny billiard ball I can’t help it I am delighted he laughs a giant gleeful laugh the laugh of pure happiness one that again reminds me you never know about people we shake hands he gives me his card and I give silent thanks * Saturday mornings are Ted’s Friday evenings and good days to ask for magic working on your tricks? I ask as he holds up a tiny piece of paper and squints at it yes, in fact do you want to see something? I am pretty sure my smile fills up the whole lobby of course! he pulls out a lighter lights the paper on fire we stare at it suddenly it’s an orange ball not sure what it is about magic that turns me into a squealing seven year old want to see more? he asks he has four cards regular looking cards they’re jokers until they’re not then they’re aces just like that I’ll have something new for you next time he tells me when I leave an hour later * everyone especially Tucson peeps in need of a magician meet Ted Theodore the Illusionist looking at his facebook page I see that he does some pretty amazing stuff with his magic for children and for veterans seems like a fitting story on this fine memorial day morning I told her thanks and she had this to say: my pleasure. and really, Ted, thank you for lightening up so many mornings. I am a magic convert. :)

That is totally awesome! You are touching peoples lives and making them smile. Keep up the good work! I just this text from my niece today, she and her husband were talking and playing with their 2 year old daughter Brielle. Brielle says "Guess what?" "What?" they reply. "Uncle Mark has money." "Where does Uncle Mark get his money?" they ask. To which Brielle replies "from my nose...of course!" That made my day! I used to do the sponge rabbits with my niece nearly 30 years ago (which she still remembers!), looks like I will have to break them out again to share with another generation. LOL Mark

That's great Mark! It is so much fun. Laila was having a bad morning this morning (she wrote the above back on Memorial Day) she had been arguing with her teenage son. I did ACR to wallet for her and then did a TT silk production and vanish. She loved it so much and it really did make her smile and brighten her day.
I don't get many gigs, but I love sharing my magic with people anyway. I absolutely love the people and the art. "from my nose...of course!" That's the best!

Thanks for the kind words guys! It's very encouraging and I'm glad you liked Laila's writing. I was so amazed that she wrote it and shared it with me. Magic has opened doors for me that I never would have imagined.
