I was in a local gas station and found a stone fish. It is painted and has eyes. I thought of using an idea of the Babel fish (sorry if I “misspeltit”) from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I am trying to think of an idea for it. Any idea?
Perhaps deciphering some ancient terms to spell out persons name or find their card etc. WR

I love the idea of using a concept from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for a magic effect! The Babel fish was one of my favorite ideas in the novels. I think you're on the right track with having it translate text for you while performing. Do you have Lennart Green's videos? On Vol.2, he has an effect called Temple of Shiva, where he has to decipher ancient text to be able to perform the "miracle" (he actually has R. Paul Wilson holding it for him ). You should check it out; it may be just what you're looking for.

How about trying the old pen in ear (or cigarette in ear) thing, where you pretend to push the fish into your ear, and then produce it from you mouth? Or maybe you could lap it (or use a topit).
Maybe if you are bi-lingual you could start talking in a foreign accent and then place the fish into your ear and talk in the native dialect. I'll try to come up with some more ideas Owen |
