I just learned the balloon swallow, but when I perform it people get, shall we say "sick" images in their head. Is there a way to divert this because that is not the character I'm going for. Any suggestions are appreciated.
thanks, Zach

I've actually never done it for anyone because I know what is going to be said. I assume sword swallowers get the same thing occasionally but I'm sure doing it with a balloon invites more... of those comments. I think the "danger" aspect of the sword detracts from "that thinking" while the shape of the balloon unfortunately adds to it. The only thing I can think of that might lessen those remarks is to draw a sword onto the balloon with a magic marker (You would have to inflate the balloon to draw it on there). You might then be able to work the idea into your routine with a joke or something about not being brave enough to try a real sword. The image of the sword on the balloon might take their minds away from "that other stuff". If you try the sword drawing or figure something else out, let me know! Colin |

I tried just saying I'm using this instead of a sword, and no body said anything. Given it was at church, so not many would say it even if they thought it.
