Over the past few years I have debated starting my own YouTube channel. I am trying to identify my goal of my post. Should I focus on Tricks? Theory? Teaching Magic? etc.
Interested in your thoughts. What would you want to see in youtube channel (not what tricks, but what approach or topic)? Please Note: I am a strong beleiver in learning magic from books and observation. YouTube has created a superficial level magic. Yes the effects may look cool, but the understanding is often lacking. I understand there is more of a demand for "revealing" style channels, but I rather recreate interest in the old style (of learning magic) one that supports delayed gratification. Finally, is a channel that speaks to theory instead of specific methods sustainable?

It would certainly set you apart from the crowd. I for one would gladly watch a theory based channel. However, it all depends on what type of magic you intend to teach. As for the sustainability factor, you could make 1000 videos, and still have yet to scratch the surface. The psychology behind the magic and methods of misdirection would be a good way to go. Although, youtube is a public domain, so you would have to tread lightly to avoid revealing the 'secrets behind the curtain'.

I have separated my mental classification of illusions into four S's. Note: each method of illusion usually uses multiple elements, and only conceptually can these be divided. sleights, science, suggestion, and secrets.
Each have distinct functions in creating an illusion, which I define as "a separation of perception and reality". I was thinking of my catch phrase would be "welcome to the hedge, where talk a little bit about theory and a lot about magic!" The Hedge has its own meaning which originates from the idea of secrets. Magicians hide their methods like a hedge hides/protects an owners property/privacy.
